Other than the trusting something that shouldn't be trusted, I can't think of anything that can get through. I'd like to know what these weak points are myself. Please enlighten us.

the only weak point i can see is the user adding a malware to the trusted area but the weaker here is the user and not defensewall:D

In default mode, it isolates everything coming from Internet/USB/Network Shares. It is up to user to run an executable as trusted. With proper settings, I am sure nothing can bypass it right now. I have added my important files and folders in secure area and tested numerous scenarios. None of untrusted file/executable can access them until I exclusively grant permissions to access them.

    Hi:

Well here is what AV-comperative says for the defensewall weakpoint.

"DefenseWall HIPS does not block e.g. buffer overflows, phishing attacks, internet connections/browser hijacks."

Link: ~ Removed Direct PDF Link as per AV-Comparatives Request - See Single Product Reviews page for the actual PDF ~

So thats what defensewall misses but I guess CIS 5 will fill this gap maybe?

this thread is going waaaay off-topic... remember... it's so easy... Your most favourite security app. which is far different from "what's your favourite security setup?"...

Don't forget that test was from may 2009 with version 2.53, almost a year and a half ago, and DW still stoped everything AVC through at it.
The current version 3.07 has a number of improvements including a two way firewall sense then.
Although no one solution (or any setup for that matter) can provide 100% protection, DefenseWall comes pretty damn close.
But a layered security setup is always the best choice, IMO.
So long as there is no (or very little) overlapping.

    Back OT.......
Can't make up my mind which is my favorite, DefenseWall or Shadow Defender.

    I can't pick just one:

    AV: Panda Cloud

    Anti-Spyware: Windows Defender

    DNS: ClearCloud

System toolkit thingy: Rising PC Doctor.

    Firewall: PricateFirewall

If I had to pick just one Panda Cloud would be the one I would pick however.

Still Sandboxie. But Acronis True Image influences all security decisions, since a system image makes everything else less critical.

Edit: I was way off, jmonge, Securon's avatar must be The King of Rocket Men, not the League of Extraodinary Gentleman.

Considering Shadow Defender's website will be gone (if things don't change) by april 2011, I think there's no point on hoping for it to be further developed. Abandonware... So sad. Anyway, I guess my most favourite security app (it was sharing No. 1 with SD) will be VIPRE Premium. Such a great well-rounded security solution, very powerful yet extremely little impact on system resources... and pocket ($$$)... :thumb:
