McAfee Security Center, came pre-loaded on a Dell Dimension 4550 running XP in late 2002. Got rid of it quickly in favor of Norton, based on a friends recommendation. This was gone pretty fast too, awful slow downs. Went to NOD32 which I stayed with for a long time.

I think I may have tried McAfee briefly, and then switched to Norton. I started using NOD 32 in 2003, and have been using them ever since. I have also used Avira, and Bitdefender during that time on a few machines. I also use to use Avast a lot for on-demand scanning because there was an option to only install the on-demand feature without the resident shield. I have not used it in a few years so i'm not sure if the installation still facilitates that option. I also used the first release of Prevx (beta pre V1), and Spysweeper back in the day. I have been using a layered security approach since 2002. I still have a license for ProcessGuard which still stops most threats out there today after all these years. Too bad it was abandoned.

I'd like to say it was Norton (family computer back then, so it wasn't my choice), but it'd be so long ago now that I can't remember. When I got my own computer, I did some research and decided on Avast (around 2003/2004).

Had my own pc way back 2004 and with came Norton AV. When it expired (2005) I tried out AvastFree + Comodo firewall for 6 months that was also my first major disaster of which I started system image back up with Seagate DiscWizard.
