For some reason my transfer rate is at a ridiculous 7kb per sec.

I do appreaciate your links but the member is mailed me a SP2 disk and will definitely make it here before i could possibly download at that speed because i'm only up during limited hours of the night, not at all in the day except weekends only.

Very possible. But as with many things related to communication (other things as well). The Government (likely the Military) :ninja: had it first. At the risk of going OT we could bring up fiber optics and how that technology was found. Note I did not say invented. ;)

My knowledge about dialup is a bit off since I havent used it for a while o_O Anyways I found this: 53K limit in the U.S.

Has been quit some time for myself as well. Not really sure why I remembered as much as I did. Really do appreciate the clarification and further info. Now I know the "rest of the story" too. ;)

    Very well true ThunderZ.

The top chain of our respective government's command circle most always gets first dibs on the latest innovations especially today due to dare i say Negotiations? or demands?

I remember a time when secret home grown scientists had their own local groups and discussed whether or not to bring new innovations to govenment attention or not but anymore the overwhelming temptations of the mighty revenue force is the chief motivations regardless of whether the final outcomes are in the best interest of common citizens favor of the world or not.

    100% agreement.
Though while I am a firm believer in Capitalism, as with all things,it has been taken to an extreme......and not for the better.
But I fear I may be steering our discussion into a slippery perhaps volatile direction when it all started over dial-up speed. :p

Yikes, none of my computers ever cost that much.

I haven't gone that low before on my dialup and with the noise, that speed always disconnects automatically (when I connect below 10KB the connection just closes). Without the noise, I can get up to 48KB, however with the noise, it averages between 14KB and 28KB).

    Lucky you.

I don't fret though, i been recipient of super hi speed a few years and decided to try another route just for variety and see how it compares, now i see the results are not exactly preferable but still doable for now.

I'll get back up to speed by summer though. LoL
