What paths, if I may ask? I don't use turbo ones, FWIW.

Primarily France and Canada exit. Normal, not turbo.

Oy vey, it looks like xerobank may be circling the drain...any recommendations for alternatives (maybe not of xerobank standards, but decent)? My most recent VPN subscription (vpnout) just expired, and I thought I'd look at xerobank again. Unfortunately the news isn't good.

I first ran across xerobank several years ago while playing around with Tor and TorPark. The technology and services looked interesting, and very promising (Tor anonymity, only faster! Oh joy!). I used the xerobank trial a couple times, with generally OK results. Not great, just OK. I never went further than the trial version. The cost was obscene, payment options very limited, customer support minimal, and the website was amateurish and uninformative.

As I don't live in a politically or religiously repressive country, traffic in pedophilia, or associate with enemies of the state, I never saw the need for the level of security and anonymity that xerobank claims to provide. I generally don't care if my Uncle Sam knows what kind of (legal) pornography I look at, or the most recent government idiocy I'm ranting about. But I do care about keeping my browsing habits private regarding my ISP, creditors, spammers, potential employers, girlfriends, and the occasional unintentional mpaa/rcaa violation.

I'm not unhappy with vpnout. I just want to try something maybe a bit better. So, I thought, its been some time. Maybe xerobank has become a better, more competetive alternative. First, I went to the xerobank website and guess what...the cost is obscene, payment options are limited, customer service appears minimal, and the website is still unimformative.

Then, I spent several days reading the Wilders threads and (trying) to look at the xerobank forums. I laughed my ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ off seeing the exact same Fanboys (SteveTX is unimpeachable-if you don't use xerobank, the World Police or the Men In Black will get you), and the Haters (SteveTX is the antichrist-xerobank is a tool of the fbi, cia, bilderbergers, and the World Police), still going at it years later.

Discounting the propaganda from both camps, I'm disappointed to find that xerobank appears to be fading away. The xerobank forums have been down for weeks (the last active post I found on the xerobank forums was in late July, complaining about xerobank's lack of response, and others trying to cancel their xerobank service), and SteveTX appears to be missing in action here. All this without any update or public statement from a xerobank representative.

Stevetx said in the cryptocloud thread that xerobank wasn't a 'one horse' operation, and if he was gone, xerobank would go on. If thats the case, then xerobank may not be much more than a 2- or 4-horse operation. I don't know of any competitive, conscientious online business or service provider that would let things go this far, this long.

Anyone hear of Strong VPN? it was recommended in a Computerworld article on 10-26 in response to the Firesheep add on for Firefox.

I'm seriously considering going to another VPN...Thinking about giving Cryptohippie a try.

I should probably just let this go, and I won't. First, xB works just fine. Except for a few brief periods, it's been available 24/7 for about two years. I routinely get 3-4 Mbps down and 1-2 Mbps up for multi-hop VPN connections.

Second, there really isn't that much point in xB support. There's no app, just OpenVPN and scripts, keys, etc. And there are how-to docs on the xB website for hardening VPN connections.

I get that most support requests involve lost passwords. Given xB's high-security design, there's nothing to be done for that, other than closing the account and creating a new one. And that's something that users can easily do themselves via DalPay.

    Anyway, that's my opinion.

Good luck cancelling XB. I tried to cancel via DalPay and sent many support requests to XB and was assured DalPay would cease recurrent billing. However, they continued to bill me for two months. I had no choice but to open a case with my CC company and do two charge backs and then have my CC number changed.

Re: Xerobank questions ? I need help

Well here is one user who needs Xerobank support and its not available. Their helpdesk goes to nowhere. Considering how much they charge, that is seriously annoying. Maybe someone here can help me. I want to use Xerobank on my Mac as well. It used to work, but I downloaded the latest version of torrentblk along with the settings files from torrentblk. When I run one of the configure files I get an error message saying the file doesn't contain a "dev tap" command. In fact, the config file does. Any ideas what to do?

Alternatively, who would you recommend over xerobank.

I'm surprised, in that DalPay customer service has always been helpful. Admittedly, though, I've never tried to cancel an account.

    I don't know Macs :'(

Given that paid XeroBank uses OpenVPN, I'm not sure why you're using torrentblk. Googling tells me that "Tunnelblick is a free, open source Graphic User Interface (GUI) for OpenVPN on Mac OS X". And FWIW, you should be getting your config files from http://ip.xerobank.com/keyfiles.php.

Nothing ;) OK, Cryptohippie or Mullvad.

That depends on what you mean by "so hot", I guess. Time will tell.

Well people were making it sound like it's been fizzling away, that's what I mean, like it's dying slowly beside the road...

Cocoons can seem pretty dead for quite a while. And sometimes they are. Time will tell.

How much time will be "enough time?" Forums closed for months, no response to emails, none of the new promised features, development looks halted, SSL certificate expired on their webpage, Steve arrogantly chooses not to respond to any questions in this forum, (but does acknowledge somebody who nominated him for an award and to defend himself against something unrelated). So, he's here - he's just not answering questions in this forum. To me, that's "enough time" to arrive at the conclusion that XB is open but nobody is minding the store. Try this to put users at peace: "Hang in there. We've gone through some rough patches - I take full responsibility for the lack of communication and the forums being unavailable, but I promise you this -- I'm going to make it right." Seriously, how hard would that be? Nope. Steve is silent. Sometimes silence really does speak louder than any words.

You're a great poster here but I fail to understand what you need to see that 2+2 really does = 4 when it comes to Xerobank.
