The thread name is not very complimentary, and there is some other stuff mixed in. Any chance of starting a Support Forum Soon? What is involved?

I think you would have to PM one of the admins

By the way you said you were with Pestpatrol, what part (coder, creator, tech support, malware labs)

    Hi, Ibrad,

I cofounded PestPatrol with Bob Bales, and for a year, it was just the two of us and Barb Rose toiling away. I was in charge of research, development, and support until the final days. A short note on this history is here. Another version of this story is here.

I'll see about tracking down an Admin.

Well then it's nice to meet ya :D

I really like the site, the database is awesome with the MD5 search. I have not go to try the app yet (No time to right now) but the way the app works is interesting.

:D And nice to meet you, too.

Sooner or later you'll find an error on the web site. When you do, please let me know, and I'll get it fixed ASAP.

When you get a chance to try Wuzzup or BugBopper, let me know what you think.

I have one suggestion. Change the name of Wuzzup to BugBopper. Wuzzup does not seem to be a suitable name for an antimalware.

Ok. Downloaded it and did initial scan. Found (2) viruses that avast didn't find. Question is this...Without malware removal from Wuzzup and the fact that avast missed these viruses, what is the best way to remove them?

    And another suggestion.
The fact that it uploads unknown files is quite reasonable and i am not too concerned about privace..;) But the main reason why I didn't like Wuzzup first, is that it uploads the whole file and that process requires enormous time and those having limited bandwidth this may cause serious problem. Also for a malware infested system this process may be interrupted. So, isn't it possible to process unknown files in the PC in some way so that only the basic details are sent?

I loved Pest patrol back in the day. It was shame that it got fed into CA. It was an excellent AM scanner.

Wuzzup was designed to show skeptics what our approach can do in finding things that other products missed. BugBopper (also the name of our company and our web site) will be our main focus when it ships. It will look much like Wuzzup, but have controls for removal and restore from quarantine. We are hoping that it will ship in the coming week.

Avast! is a very good program, and there is always the chance that the files you found are false alarms. What were their p scores?

    Re: Uploads without permission.

    Hello David,

I would like to check- Is HTTP (port 80) file upload available in the new release?

I am the one who wrote to Jim one month ago about my problem uploading suspicious files via FTP. :)

    Thanks.

Both P scores are 10%. Should I assume fp?

    Re: Uploads without permission.

Such an extra 'Agreement popup' should suffice indeed.
Also for those who blindly start using a program without reading the available information on how it works.

And yeah, either the thread title should be changed or a new thread should be started to let this one die.

There is no reason why Wuzzup (a hideous name btw, imao) should immediately be associated with 'worst' and 'without permission', solely because of ignorance.

    Re: Uploads without permission.

A number of users have reported issues with our FTP uploads, most commonly that their default firewall settings – and in some cases even their ISP – block this protocol.:(

HTTP uploads is definitely on our list, and if it isn't in the next release, it will likely be in the one after that. Also on the list: an option to work entirely offline.

Agreed, the thread title should be amended.

Not sure whether sg09 can change it himself?

I would assume a false positive. A p of 10% means that about one in ten scanners would detect the file as malware.

Most users with such a scanner would delete it, sometimes with horrible consequences. (Consider McAfee's recent troubles.)

If a file with a p of 10% appears in your machine after a session with your browser, or is suspicious for any reason, then I'd take it very seriously. But if a file otherwise seems fine, and has been in your machine for quite a while, I'd want a p of 30% or higher before fretting.

What makes all of this so difficult is that new malware is being created at an astonishing pace, and the Zero Day Vulnerability is more serious than ever. So a new file in your machine might be malware that is just hours old. Your favorite anti-malware product might not detect it for weeks, if ever.

Two things you can do to gain confidence in your decision:
    • Look at the Encyclopedia pages that link from the scan log. You'll find more details there.
    • Submit the file for analysis here.

There is a longer discussion of the detection problems that Wuzzup and BugBopper address here.
