honestly at this point i think we are beating a dead horse and it might be time for this just to be closed i think many including webroot directly made their points clear on the subject so now its up to the individual if they want to attempt to buy there or not. i went and got a number of copies from amazon myself but this time i got them from amazon directly or "fufilled by amazon" which is shipped by them directly i made the mistake the first time of buying from a seller on amazon and got the best buy versions.

but i just think this will go no where and we will just keep beating a dead horse here. maybe just me but.....

Hey, I figure if "It looks like it's working" is good enough for you, just put a picture of it on your computer and you don't spend anything. Webroot isn't in any way obligated to provide service for fraudulent keycodes, since that keycode doesn't create a valid license agreement with Webroot.

But hey, if a user wants to take the chance that they have a gutted version that's aware that it's stolen and just sits looking pretty without doing anything, then they have the right to waste their $1 on that. The more intelligent folks just get it for free after rebate for what is more likely to be valid than $1 for something that Webroot has said clearly won't work.

The rest of us will also happily question hose users' moral standings and maybe think they might deserve what they get if they're using invalid keys that don't create legitimate license agreements and end up getting something ugly. :)

Look either the product works with the key, or it doesn't. If WR has a 'fake' looking version that looks like it is working, but isn't, then we have a serious issue to discuss here. I suspect they do not, therefore either it accepts the key, and works or doesn't accept it. Plain and simple.

Quite easy to verify with Eicar, Trojan Simulators, or even Malware Domains. I'm running one of the keys myself alongside Bullguard with everything turned off except the web protection aspect. I have no need for the other functions, I just want the paid version of PrevX that is inside of it. For a buck you can't go wrong.

There are a few other possibilities: someone else has activated the key (which means it's already started decrementing days previously), someone else has associated the key within the web console (which means they would be able to remotely affect your PC's operation), someone is trying to get a refund on the key which means it may suddenly stop working (once the refund is processed and we cancel it), the key could have been stolen and we're waiting on information to cancel the batch, or it could be an incorrectly distributed set of keys (i.e. ones which should have been destroyed) and are pending to be removed from our system.

Cracked versions are a different animal entirely - someone using a cracked version of WSA will receive normal scan results/can cleanup some files (like eicar) but we block actual protection and several features in the background as our cloud always knows the status of a license key.

That being said, I'm sure there are legitimate keys in some of these cases, I just wouldn't want to try it myself. Admittedly, I'm not one to want to pay full retail for software either, but usually there are pretty good deals from the vendor or from Amazon around the holidays or on Black Friday which I take advantage of.

Active with 364 days left. Also I logged into the web page for WR, and checked the installed PC's using the key, and it matches up with mine.

I have enough malware to test the functionality of a product regardless, and don't believe for a minute 'some' functionality could be lost, that would be suicide for a company. Nevertheless, I am just using it for PrevX aspects of it anyway, and that's easy to test with malware domain websites.

see the best ones in question would normally say something like "require activation" or similar. still not saying they are legit but your may work for now or for the full time. as i said earlier it seems for now yours is working but may not for the full 365 days if what webroot is saying.

What is the best deal on WSA right now? Any deals for renewals? I have less than three months left.

    Thanks. :)

I contacted the linked Ebay seller.

According to this seller, he gets his keys activated directly from Webroot. I bought 2 more keys, and didn't hear back from him for a couple of days. He said he was waiting for the two activations to arrive back from Webroot's vendor support.

    LOL?

He is a large scale purchaser of auctioned items, and has a warehouse. He claims WR activates each code for him that he sells.

Either way, they work. Check his feedback, hundreds of people posting positive feedback about legitimate codes. He sells codes to a wide variety of 'closeout' software, such as 2012 versions of Trend, which are now replaced with 2013 versions. Someone has to buy this stuff.

I'd recommend just checking with Kit on the community. He offered, so take him up on it. Better than ending up thinking you're safe and having broken keys instead.

Checked my e-bay keycodes with Kit yesterday night. He told me that they were all from Best Buy and not legitimate and he warned me that they would be deactivated 7-days or 30-days after I activate them.

I contacted the e-bay seller ("simio61"), told him the keycodes were not legit, and he promptly cancelled the purchase and refunded my money.

I suggest others do the same.

I don't understand why a person would buy a questionable WSA licence when they know there are frequent great sale prices directly from Webroot or from legitimate re-sellers. Seems 'pound foolish', not to mention probably unfair to the company they are relying on to keep them secure.

I went ahead and got a refund just in case. The seller was very fast with the refunds.

I hate Best Buy, they are unethical and untrustworthy so it doesn't surprise me they auctioned these off. I purchased Steam Cards from them for the kids, and guess what? Not a single one will activate, Best Buy forgot to scan them. Pathetic company. My keys from another wholesaler are still working fine, and some of those are 7-8 months old. ($2.50 a license) So I will stick with those until I find something else later, but I only install WR on inlaws computers anymore.
