WPS Office 2014 Released

WPS Office for Linux, http://linux.wps.com/wpslinuxlog.html. Recent versions haven't been as fast as they used to be, taking an age to load a simple spreadsheet. They've got this one right. I'm on Kubuntu 20.04.

WPS Office 2019 For Linux(11.1.0.9711) Update log
Globally:

1. Improved font list loading to solve the problem of incomplete font list of a same font series in Linux
2. Improved secondary development interface mechanism to improve interface execution efficiency and drawing efficiency

WPS Presentation:

1. Supports editing functions such as rotation, highlighting, annotation, inserting and deleting pages, encryption and decryption

 

I tried it again and with some files it was sloooow. Have removed it and am now with LibreOffice.

The latest version opens fast on this old laptop. I find it much easier to navigate than MS Word. Compatibility with DOCX (I only use the word processor) has been perfect. I don't know about the other features.

I normally try to avoid office software, but I needed to open a .docx file, so I downloaded WPS Office and I'm shocked at how crappy it has become! Is it true that there is no way to simply start WPS Writer as a standalone app? I keep getting to see some dumb as hell ''startpage''. And it just feels like spyware with all this focus on the cloud.

Nope, it's a link to the online installer which will probably download the full version. I never would have imagined that office software would suck this bad. I don't like Libre Office and SoftMaker FreeOffice either. MS Office is no option for me, since it's paid. I think I saw someone mention another free office app on YouTube, will look for it. AbiWord has sadly enough also been discontinued, not that it was any good. But it would have served me well for simply viewing a .docx file I suppose.

 

Yes, that's what I tried, but these files do open in WordPad but aren't readable. This is completely bonkers, what a mess. Do I really need to download a full blown office suite just to read an MS Office file? Well, I apparently I did because I downloaded WPS Office, which completely sucks!

 

Perhaps OnlyOffice could be an option for you?
However that's still a suite, not only a word processor.
And if you don't mind the developing company being a subsidiary of a Russian company (1).

What don't you like about it. I was using for some time, but switched to MS Office, because very occasionally it has issues displaying some MS Office documents correctly.

 

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for, it's simple and fast. I'm surprised there aren't more apps like this. The only problem is that it doesn't seem to correctly display documents from the CoolfreeCV site, while WPS Office does.

It's too slow, at least when running sandboxed. I install all of these office suites with the help of Sandboxie, so that I can easily remove them.

I tried to install OnlyOffice, but I got some error about some missing .dll file, I don't got time for this.
