I've been checking every day for the 2014 release of WPS Office Free. Today their page is different, and there is no free download button? Yet if I Google "WPS Office free," it is on the Kingsoft page as 2014 and free:

    http://www.wps.com/windows/

    http://www.ksosoft.com/product/office-free.html

EDIT: The Kingsoft site has 2014 beta 3, while wps.com has the 2014 final, and there is no free version to be found there :(

Can anyone find out if the free version is discontinued?

I don't see the 2014 final in wps.com (it states beta), and checking for updates gives me beta 2... The kingsoftstore link is also beta 3.

Hmm, I had guessed since they'd changed their webpage and I didn't see anything about "beta" that the final version was out. Anyways, I emailed them to ask if the free version is discontinued.

Seems the final version was released a little while back. I installed it, and it seems they removed saving in Office 10+ formats from the free verison.

Holy crap, I just activated MS Office 2013 that came pre-installed on my new Acer desktop, and I'm a bit shocked, what a load of crap. It's heavy, and the GUI is unhandy as hell, I hate the ribbons, which idiot invented this?

And they expect me to pay 139 euro for Office Home edition? No thanks. I also checked out SoftMaker Office, I still need to test it a bit more, but it performed badly on a Word document with forms. So did anyone try WPS Office? There is a paid and free version.

Sorry forgot to post, but it's not just the look and feel, it's just unhandy. For example, I'm still searching for the main options. I prefer the old skool GUI, like in WPS Writer.

UBitMenu is free for personal use. I have used it and it works very well.

WPS Office 2015 is still free, which is good since it is the office suite I currently use.

Umm, Office 2013 is 'heavy' on a new laptop? You better return that thing! My wife runs Office 2013 on a 7 year old laptop (but it does have an SSD, and 8GB ram) and it flies like the wind... I paid $59.00 for 1 year Office 365 (which includes 2013 of course) for our entire household. That's cheaper than this WPS knockoff, and includes 1TB Cloud Storage for up to 5 of us (5TB total).. Frankly, Office 365 is the best deal out there, and also fully compatible with all of the stuff we use already.

    Check Ebay!

I have a broad definition of "heavy". Yes it runs quite fast, but it uses a lot of RAM, and in certain documents it uses quite a lot of CPU time. I can't wait to get rid of it, so I can get my 2 GB of disk-space back. You should check out WPS Office, it's way cooler, not that I'm really into Office suites, to clarify.

Fake offices are useless to me. For one, all of our clients have MS Office deployed, so I need to always keep abreast of the real thing. Another is a lot of the plugins we need are only for Office Proper, such as PERRLA. Finally, I am about to be certified as a MOS, which is crucial when having 33K+ systems deployed with MSO. So learning, using, or buying a cheap office knockoff nobody uses doesn't benefit me in any way.

Why is ram use even discussed anymore? Unless a laptop has 1GB of installed ram, it shouldn't matter. It's not like you are going to open 20 office documents, and then load up Skyrim to play, right? Disk space matters even less in the day and age of 1-5TB drives.. Even my junky laptops have 250GB, so 2GB is pretty trivial overall. Since Office 365 comes with 5TB of cloud storage anyway...

I've installed WPS Office on my Android tablet. And it looks better than the previous Kingsoft office for Android. There are some glitches like it couldn't open one of my PDF files whereas other PDF readers opened it fine. And it's saying one of my MS office files as Type: MS Word 2007/2010. But it is actually MS 2013 file.

Well not anymore. MS has made the storage unlimited. The unlimited Onedrive storage for Office 365 users will be rolling out throughout this year.:)

Well, as long as it does the job, I wouldn't call it fake. I'm extremely sensitive about certain things, and I don't like heavy and bloated software, even on powerful machines. MS Office didn't use to be like this. But of course, I can understand your point of view. And I'm also not a heavy user of Office software, so my needs are different.

I was using WPS Office 2015 during the 30 day trial version of the paid product. But, after 30 days it switches to the limited free version.

Among other limitations, the free can open but not save MS Office 2007 files (.docx, .xlsx, etc), which will be a big issue for some people. Also when you save a file to PDF, a watermark is added to the bottom of the page. At least the watermark is fairly unobtrusive.

As a result I've switched to SoftMaker Office 2012 as I already had a licence for it. It opens much faster than WPS Office, and despite the "2012" name, continues to be updated, with the last update being just a few weeks ago. It can be purchased quite cheaply as Ashampoo Office 2012 when Ashampoo have their sales on, and when you purchase Ashampoo Office, you also get registered as a user of SoftMaker Office, and get access to updates from SoftMaker, which not only update the product but rename it back to SoftMaker Office.

    Hi All

After using Kingsoft Free/WPS for a number of years I see they have removed a number of features from the free versions that have been available over the years. Most notably the saving of DocX and Mailmerge. Whilst they are entitled to do so, I feel it is a bit naughty, it is a slight form of entrapment.

I think the version that I'm using still has this option. I downloaded and installed it a month ago, so this must be something new indeed.
