I think if it was a good thing, you really wouldn't have to think about it at all, you'd know... especially at $39.
+1 Flat may be back in fashion but I detest it. It's as if Microsoft fired all of their graphics designers.
Without words: Since the UI was designed with tablets in mind, that lack the horsepower of even a laptop, it's understandable why MS did that. When aero was out, "Flat was so old, obsolete and of past century. Time to throw your paleolithic computer and use the capabilities of modern era!". Now "flat is so modern, glass is so slow and who wants drop shadows!".
If Microsoft paid me $199 for upgrade, then I will surely upgrade. Won't take a penny less. Best regards,
This is what a thought, i would only change to W8 if i get a touch screen monitor which won't happen anytime soon. Maybe in like 5-10 years and by then we will already have W9. I'm still hoping W8 turns out to be a big fail.
No as I afraid that some necessary progs ain't compatible with 8. And Win 7 is awesome, especially Ult.
Make an image and backup the activation (there are tools for that) before you do anything. Just got my upgrade to SONY VAIO Windows 8 x 64 i5 3210M CPU @ 2.50 HZ 6 gigs ram 750 HDD 7200RPM. Windows 8 is ok after classic shell to rid the tiles and bring my start back other wise it does not offer me anything that windows 7 haven't already.
It never left on my computer. Ever since windows XP I have always had most basic theme with set on best performance and no shadows or anything. So for me this would be in a sense upgrade since I would no longer have to go through extra steps to make everything flat.
Go for it. Sooner or later you will have to move on from XP. If you like the UI in Win8, you 've nothing to lose. You can even disable the desktop default theme and make it even more simple, like the one you have in XP, so there won't be a negative shock if you don't like the normal UI.
I did upgrade, but I'm not gonna vote because I feel there is nothing wrong with either choice. They both have their pluses and minuses and that discussion has been beaten to death. 90+% of the time there is not much difference between them.
I kept 8. I have a Windows 8 Phone and working at a software company I figured the experience would be good for when customers called in using it.
Probably you are right. - Anyways .. the important thing would now be for MS to LISTEN, see where (really dumb ) faults were made and to correct them ASAP!
got my first BSOD this afternoon with Win 8. a very nice BSOD screen came, with quite a lot of details about the failure. then it rebooted, the asked if i wanted to send the report, it also informed me of the location of the minidump and other info. it makes having a BSOD almost an enjoyable experience.
