If someone is motivated to do well (and passionate with this) and is hard-working then they should achieve there goal. And if they don't achieve their goal for whichever reason, then move on and try something else until you reach where you want to be/are successful.

    Gender isn't a factor IMO.

I have never really had a problem with women in the workplace and in my experience the ones most likely to have a problem with them are other women.
A man is not going to turn down a good job applicant because he is more handsome than himself.
Let a woman be in charge of hiring and the applicant is female, half her age, half her size, and twice as pretty, that poor girl doesn't have a hope.
I have seen that scenario played out many, many times.

Beauty is such a curse.

I think in Infosec the CVs of all applicants are thoroughly reviewed by department heads. HR just does the initial interview and it would be unlikely a good female candidate would not get a second interview. Several companies now have a diversity plan so an HR dragon lady might not be ale to discriminate as freely as you describe.

I'll have to get my Aunt to join Wilders, for the last 30yrs her schedule has been, for 6 days of the week, up at 5am start work at 7am get off at 7pm and when she gets home her favorite things to do to wind down are online gaming followed by sci fi tv shows and movies. She was one of the first people ever to marry someone she met online, my cousin, who she met in person after becoming friends while using a message protocol that existed long before even IRC was invented.
My Aunt is the ultimate computer geek and systems analyst at one of the biggest insurance companies in the world, she is over four large corporate office buildings in California and she has probably forgotten more than most of us will ever know.

Women get treated as second class citizens at work all the time and at every level. Most of that is never recognised or reported because the individual women don't want to go through all the process of making sexual discrimination complaints and even if they did want to, they know it is difficult to prove.

I guess I'm supremely qualified to reply to this: As long as the Speaker actually has something to say I could care less if the Speaker is Male, Female, Animal, or Martian.

People REALLY have to get over themselves...

"...With today’s announcement, Palo Alto Networks and GSUSA plan to introduce cybersecurity education to millions of girls across the United States through compelling programming designed to increase their interest and instill in them a valuable 21st century skillset. This national effort is a huge step toward eliminating traditional barriers to industry access, such as gender and geography, and will target girls as young as five years old, helping to ensure that even the youngest girls have a foundation primed for future life and career success..."

Half the world is female, so why do women only make up 1% of security leaders?

We now have a female hacker in the news:

"Paris Hilton is the victim of a hacker, who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars as well as nude photos ...

The hacker, a woman named Paytsar Bkhchadzhyan, was active from 2015 to 2017 and stole from Paris and 2 other people.* According to docs, she hacked Hilton's bank accounts, and used her credit cards to make reservations for a 2015 New Year's Eve party at Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel. The feds say Paytsar charged up to $40k on Paris' credit cards, that night alone.

Paytsar also impersonated Paris online, sending emails requesting Hilton's assistant wire $80k to one of Paytsar's accounts.

According to the docs, Paytsar jacked the naked pics from Paris' iCloud account, but it's unclear what she did with the material. She also hacked her dad, Rick Hilton and sister Nicky in an attempt to jack passwords for other accounts belonging Paris...

She'll be sentenced on Monday, and federal prosecutors are recommending she get 57 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and pay restitution to the victims totaling $318,535..."

    * "...All this news about Paris Hilton is now coming to light, though, because Paytsar is set to be sentenced on Monday morning..."

Joxx, I'm with you. It should be the best person for the job and nothing more.
Politics and populism only lead to the lowest common denominator of quality and productivity.

Is there any evidence that women with equal or better knowledge and expertise than the men in that field are being excluded?
