    --- WinZip 8.1 SR-1 now available ---

WinZip 8.1 Service Release 1 (SR-1) includes a change to the original
release of WinZip 8.1. The change addresses a vulnerability that is
already properly handled, as of WinZip 8.0, for Zip files; WinZip 8.1
SR-1 addresses it for the other archive types supported by WinZip, such
    as TAR and CAB.

WinZip will now warn you if you attempt to open any archive that uses a
parent folder (that is, "..") specification for any of the files that
it contains. The reason for the warning is that extraction from such an
archive could allow files to be extracted to locations outside of the
folder tree that you have specified for the extraction. A malicious
individual who created such an archive and convinced you to extract its
contents could exploit this to overwrite important files elsewhere on
    your system.

All WinZip users are encouraged to upgrade to WinZip 8.1 SR-1.

Further information about WinZip 8.1 SR-1 is available on the web page

    --- WinZip 8.1 SR-1 upgrade procedure ---

Registered users of WinZip 8.1 and all earlier English language versions
of WinZip can download a free upgrade to WinZip 8.1 SR-1 from the web

Download and run the distribution file (winzip81.exe), then just follow
the prompts to install your upgrade. Please do NOT uninstall your
    previous version of WinZip.

--- WinZip E-Mail Attachment Add-On for Outlook Beta now available ---

We are pleased to announce the beta release of the WinZip E-Mail
    Attachment Add-On for Outlook.

This new add-on makes it easy for you to zip (compress) the files that
you attach to Microsoft® Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002 e-mail messages.
Zipping attachments saves transmission time and disk storage for both
the sender and receiver of the e-mail.

For complete information about new features and how to download the
    add-on, see the web page
