Either by way of system Automatic Update or Microsoft website update, WMF update fails.

    System accessing the Automatic Update:
    1. File downloads
    2. Install process occurs
    3. Get window stating not able to complete the update.

1., 2., 3. keep repeating over and over.

Closed down all my system protections: Eset NOD32, Look-n-Stop, ProcessGuard, WinPatrol, Ghost, which did not help.
Usually just need to shutdown the Look-n-Stop software firewall to accomplish WinXP SP2 updates.

So downloaded the XP update from link in this webpage
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS06-001.mspx .

Ended up having to boot into Safe Mode to successfully complete the install.

Tested sucessfully to block the WMF exploit.

Did create a System Restore point before doing above.

i think we both had the update downloaded, the problem is the way they are installing it, i know that because my computer is perfect so it's nothing to do with conflicts or my setup :p

You can download the WMF patch from Microsoft from the following link, just click the Download button to get WindowsXP-KB912919-x86-ENU.exe:

Security Update for Windows XP (KB912919)
    Brief Description
A remote code execution security issue has been identified in the Graphics Rendering Engine that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it.
