    WinPatrol 24.1.2012.0 Released
    Date: January 30th 2012

    What's New?
    Delayed Start
    • While not everyone had the same experience some folks reported that Delayed Start was no longer working with WinPatrol 2012
This update will resolve this error and give back one of your favorite features.

    Hidden Files 64 bit
    • This update also helps fix a bug in the display of hidden files on 64 bit versions of Windows. It doesn't affect any other versions and has no impact unless you're using Windows 64 bit version. You'll know you have Windows 64 bit if you notice the you have both a Program Files folder and one called Program Files (x86).

My existing copy already has this version number. o_O

The release date should be January 30th 2012 instead of January 30th 2011. :D

A simpler version number system would be most welcome.

Yes, I've often wondered why Bill P uses such a complex numbering system. How about it Bill? Can you make it simpler (or at least explain it :) )?

Here's my take on the WinPatrol Version information:

It was in 2009 that Bill added the year designation to WinPatrol. Although WinPatrol 2009 was compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista, it was specifically designed to work with Windows 7 (with -http://www.winpatrol.com/wpsetup18.exe- available for Windows 98/ME and Windows 2000 legacy systems).

Since then, in the new calendar year release, the name has been incremented: WinPatrol 2010, WinPatrol 2011 and now WinPatrol 2012. Thus, the 2012 in the current version.

    v24.0.2012.0:

Version 24.0 was the first release of WinPatrol 2012 --v24.0.2012.0.

When WinPatrol 2012 was released, "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts" was inadvertently unchecked. Thus, Bill quickly replaced v24.0.2012.0 with v24.0.2012.1. It didn't include any bug fixes, merely a quick correction to the GUI.

    v24.1.2012.0:

Version 24.1 has the .1 as the incremental identification of version 24 which includes the bug fix to Delayed Start that some people were experiencing -- v24.1.2012.0.

Thanks for the explanation Corrine. At least now I can tell whether or not I have the latest version. I don't understand though what the implied difference is between incrementing the number before the year Vs after the year. Winpatrol would be just as excellent if it used the typical X.Y system, where X=primary version and .Y=incremental changes and bug fixes.
