Is that a glasswire like list of active connections, or just a number indicating how many there are? If it had robust logging I can see it being useful.
Ditto. I have the original paid product. I am not at all impressed with this update. Hohummmmm might be more appropriate. I browse their forum sometimes but it is pretty much dead. I noticed a few user improvement suggestions that are over a year old, but it appears that no-one from the company is interested in addressing them.
Didn't like the initial release and never tried newer ones. Don't even use original WinPatrol at all either. (and I have lifetime licenses for both)
It did not slow my laptop down and it is 9 years old , x9000 dual core chip OC'd to 3.4 . Took a while installing , but once rebooted and scanned it runs fine , nothing slowed down .
Anybody have info on the Canvas Fingerprinting module of this product Does it work? what does it really do?
I have a few sites that have been identified by WPFirewall as using canvas fingerprinting. As a test, I kept the program opened and accessed the sites and WPFirewall counted the access. I am not sure what else it does other than capture how many times I access the sites. The feature needs a lot more user information. Some posters on their forum have asked as much but I don't think those requests get passed onto the devs.
That why I was asking, thanks for the reply I don't think it blocks or hide anything. Maybe someone will have an answer?
The feature does indicate that something is blocked, but it does not specify what. This info might help, but I can not verify if it is correct... A known canvas finger printing site is cloudflare.com and that is why it is blocked by WinPrivacy. It is only blocking the attempt to create an image of your system - to ID you for tracking purposes, it is not blocking all the other services that the website offers, e.g. cloudflare offers spam protection, identification of malicious content and other web security functions .
I was trying it out a little in shadow mode yesterday. it was showing blocks of I don't know what and I do not like firewalls that do not have good logs. even tinywall logs are better then none.
I just installed the last update a few days ago. (2017.1.941). Once again it is another hohummmmmm update. Fixing bugs is a good thing (there were very few), but they need to address a lot more to keep this product viable. The logs are wanting and their forum is irrelevant. It is on that slow drip known as life support. Privacy problems are a nightmare and most users have surrendered to bullying tactics. This product had potential, but they chose to neglect it for the more financially lucrative Winransomware product.
The WinPatrol Firewall (formerly WinPrivacy) Forum (at Landzdown) is formerly closed March 29, 2017. Support will now be provided exclusively by email support. support@winpatrol.com
I sent a question in on the 'new' support address 4 days ago but still have not received a response. Not sure what the usual wait time is. I find that the popup for 'allow or deny' is ignoring my selection. It is blocking everything.
Hi i want to know if this software is something like Windows firewall control, or is a real firewall or is a network monitor Why Wndows firewall dont disable when you install? how it works?
It was originally introduced as a privacy tool. It is not a system firewall in the same sense as the Windows Firewall. I suggest you go to their website and read what it offers.
I have just downloaded and installed it so--- I have nothing to report except it is installed and some information appears on the screen but if it seems O.K. I'll probably pay the $18 for a 5 computer Lifetime license if I can find the money. I'll get back to you.
Well, it reports a ton of information. Looks like this program is gentle on dummies and I have 5 computers and I'm a dummy. They offer a 14 day trial if anyone is interested.
