I installed WinPatrol immediately, because I still had one unused spot for Scotty in my system tray.

It does seem to be a pretty good program. ;)

I like WinPatrol too, and some of the reasons are not just because it's a great program, but because they seem like such an honest company, and they have NEVER been in it for the money, like some other companies around these parts. I feel that the WinPatrol team has always been in it to try to help alleviate the spyware problem, and not to profit from it.

BillP Studios, the makers of WinPatrol, are definitely a company we should be supporting IMO. Honest guys like BillP, and the WinPatrol team, just put so many others to shame because of their extremely fair dealings and their honesty, not to mention putting out a great program. I truly hope WinPatrol will be around a long long long time. Much thanks to BillP and the WinPatrol team. :D

I'm a little confused. Are you equating honesty to 'not being in it for the money' ? (heheh, by which definition I would not be honest, as I work for money)

I like winpatrol too. One the the most user friendly computer management/security tools around.

And BillP provides great support at his forum over at Castlecops.

WinPatrol has served me and many others i know very well for a number of years, popping up when required to alert us. I have rolled back to the previous version though, as i found the HOSTS protect On/Off button a great asset, which has been removed from later versions.

I find the other features in WP very useful too.

We have never had any problems with any version, and continue to recommend it.

I also think Bill P is one of the good guys, and my sincere thanks and appreciation go out to him for giving us, and continuing to support WinPatrol.

I noticed the new yet to be released 9.7 version of WinPatrol is supposed to have buffer overflow protection. Taken from the website:

    Buffer Overflow Security Added
WinPatrol 9.7 now uses newly developed Windows text functions provided by Microsoft to protect developers from security threats caused by hackers taking advantage of possible buffer overflow flaws.

    Sounds interesting.

    Hi,
Truly good software comes only from non-profit motives. It's the modern Communism, if you like it. Long live Billy and Patrick Kolla!

Hi MRK, I find that's hardly true at all.

Even using that supposition...Someone has to pay for the bandwith. Very few are motivated to give money away to the non-needy :)

However, that discussion is a bit off topic. I've watched WP develop over the years. I didn't have it on my computer for a year at one stage, and was quite impressed with how much it had improved next time I used it. BillP deserves much kudo's for it's continuing development :)

  12. took wp 9.7 for a little test spin.....what impressed me most was the terrible un-install......which totally failed to even begin to un-install the program. wp had to be removed by use of a couple of registry editors.
a great program but can not understand this un-install problem. anyone else have the same problem.

Did you Exit Program, before you start uninstalling it ?

  14. yes, for sure wp was completely shut down before un-install.
in add/remove the wp listing would be removed but the program itself remained fully installed. played around with this for several hours but the un-install just refuse to work. don't think i will be trying to use wp again anytime in the future. yes, a really great program for sure but just wont un-install on my computer. this should not discourage others from using wp.

Well the 9.7 version is still in beta, it's not an official release, as you can see if you go to the Winpatrol website, the 9.5 version is still the one available for download, so if your having problems you should report them to BillP because that's what you do when your testing a beta release. If you don't want problems with programs in the future, wait till it comes out of beta before you try it.

When I download and install from either the link posted by Dagolag or directly from the Winpatrol website, all I can get is the 9.5.0.1 installer. I even reinstalled it and am still getting only 9.5.0.1. Weird stuff. Is anyone else having this problem? :(
