Hi Folks, I'm confused (again). Nick has a sticky in the update area w/the Oct updates for MS. I have windows 98se w/Big Fix that is giving me the mess. "SECURITY:Buffer Overrun In MDAC Function Could Allow Code Execution" with the option of downloading the file from their screen. Rather than doing that I went to the Windows Update site but no critical updates were available. I then went to the MS site but couldn't figure out what if any of the downloads I needed.

Can anyone give me a boost?

    Regards, big ed

Personally I would go with what is offered at the ms download site because it scans your computer and offers what you don't already have.

    Hey Big C,

Thanks. Your reply supports my understanding that I should only use the Windows update site for those types of downloads. Would you have any input on Big Fix?

    Regards, big ed

    Hello big ed,

I am moving your thread to the software & services forum where it will get more attention.

    Hey Ron,

Looked at what you sent me. Tried to update thru Big Fix. Got about 50% of MS download, then got garbled mess. that I was missing a necessary file. Guess I'll have to wait til Tues. when it is supposed to be available @ the Win update site.

    Thanks, big ed

I just checked using XP. No critical updates needed here either.
Since WU checks the files you have applied to your computer, I would say you are up to date.

    Thanks Ron,

As "Big Fix" is still hounding me I guess I'll just delete the alert. It's not that I need to screw up my sys any more than it already is.

    Regards, big ed
