Just today a few minutes ago Windows Update changed settings to allow W10

    I don't have malware. I'm positive.

GWX control panel started blinking WU popped up said it installed updates. Couldn't disable enable W10 updates. Never10 was red also.

Rebooted & everything is back to normal. And WU says my last updates were installed in 02.2017 not today. ** M$.

Are you saying it set WU from never check or check for updates do not install to automatically install? Then it suddenly started to install W10 files or are you referring to the KB that GWXCU and Never 10 blocks? What version of OS did this happen on?

W7P64. GWXCP setting: Are Windows 10 upgrades allowed? switched from No. to Yes. Then WU icon appeared saying on mouse over WU has finished installing some updates.

In Windows 7 x64, I ran Windows Update "Check for updates".
No new updates were found (only the Preview, that was already there).

    I checked Windows Update settings.
Nothing changed, stil set to "Check for updates but let me choose to download and install them", and "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" disabled.

I checked the DisableOSUpgrade registry setting.
    Nothing changed.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
    DisableOSUpgrade=1

I really wonder what happened on your system, zapjb.
    I'll keep an eye open.

I always find the Ghost in the Machine. It's a curse LOL. Just for ***** & giggles I'm running scans. So far EEK Clean. But MBAM 3 free wouldn't start, so I scanned with MBAM chamelon & it was clean. But chameleon could not find any install of MBAM v3.xx. So chameleon installed MBAM 2.21 & it ran clean. After a reboot I tried starting MBAM 3 & got service can't connect. But MBAM 2 is working.

And my WU reg is the same as yours.

Edit: And just now BDIS 2017 system scan CLEAN.

I uninstalled the GWXCP script on W7, so I can not check it for you. It is odd for it to run as it is only looking for certain KBs.

It is strange that the WU icon indicated that updates were installed. Do you have MSE ? (I have never seen the icon appear when it installs def files- maybe it does). There are a few posts on the W7 forum about MSE doing strange things since last week's patches. People are getting a popup saying that malware has been detected during the scan, but nothing gets quarantined. Cousins of your ghost.

Very interesting all. I don't use the windows time server. I have a clock program, but it checks other servers. Also I've stopped doing updates on W7. I no longer trust what MS does with that stuff.

    Another free Windows 10 update?

Like I'm shocked, shocked and shocked Microsoft would bring it back!

We'll see how that turns out.
