I have noticed that the Task Manager processes tab lists wmplayer.exe even after I have closed Windows Media Player (it takes about 10 seconds for the wmplayer.exe to eventually go away after closing WMP).

Because of this, I have to wait that 10 seconds each time I close WMP and want to restart it.

Anyone got any idea what's going on please? Thanks for any advice.

Same issue as with this guy:

    Running Windows XP, SP3.

Any reason you can post elsewhere and not reply to your own request for help? What am I missing?

    Hi. "This guy", here. :D

The workaround which has worked perfectly for me, is to disable the Universal plug and play device host in "services.msc". (Also disabled the Windows media player network sharing service, as it's a dependency.)

Not entirely satisfactory, as I was never able to work out exactly why this worked.
For someone needing the functionality these services provide (I don't) it would not be satisfactory at all.

Tarun at Lunarsoft helped me find the answer, Here.

PS. For a while I though I was the only one!
Had pretty much forgotten about it.
    So good to have company.
Bet you don't agree. (Unless this resolves the issue!)

You're welcome for the help. :) Love it when that happens.

Pure chance I spotted this in the new posts; had no idea it was me till I clicked the link.

    I don't like mysteries.
Maybe one day the real problem will be worked out. But probably not. If folk analyzing my crash dumps can't work it out, I'm certainly not techie enough.

    I'm using XP Home.
I doubt very much that this issue is going to be resolved in the remaining support period for XP, unless a lot of users ask Ms about it.
That's ok, I can live without the service.

    Hmm.
Got all the Windows updates installed, too?

A mystery indeed. One beyond me to solve.

I try and keep up to date with things here at least every couple of days. Haven't reached the last page of the internet, yet. ;)
(Well, I have, but turns out it was bogus.)

But it was notifications emailed that let me know you'd replied, here.:thumb:
