A friend of mine just asked me a question about the defrag utility with Windows ME. When he runs it, it sits there at 0% all night long.

Refresh my memory. ME's defrag will start all over again if the drive is accessed during a defrag. And if it is interupted so many times, it will stop trying and display an error message. Am I remembering correctly here?

Also, Windows ME has CHKDSK and if you run it with the /F parameter, it will run at bootup?

My brain has either overloaded with too much information, or shrunk with age. :p

Finally, any idea why it would sit there at 0% all night long?

I personally think it is better to defrag in safe mode,no interuptions that way.

Thanks. I told him to do that too. It's his home PC, so I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out what he's been able to do.
