I've been using the beta for a while and now the "final" versions of Mail, Sync, Messenger and Photo Gallery. These are good programs and it's remarkable that the whole suite is free. Of course they're not perfect. One annoying problem with the Mail program has to do with newsgroups; when replying to posts it does not indent the original message (plain text mode). The is actually fairly significant since it makes it difficult to follow the chronology of the posts within the thread. The Wave 3 Mail program had this feature so you have to wonder why it was removed? I don't rely much on NG's anymore, but if I did I would be looking for dedicated reader. The Photo Gallery includes a feature originally in "Group Shot", where you can replace objects in pictures. This is very handy when you've taken multiple pictures of a group of people and you just can't them to all smile at the same time - you just chose one picture and replace the faces with smiles from the other pictures :)

I've been hearing some good things about this wave. I have no use for any of the programs included so I don't use it, but I do recommend friends/family have a look at them.

yes the standard interface has a big panel showing friend updates and can show msn news. it also has tabbed chat windows.
there is facebook integration among other things.
windows live mail and photo gallery have ribbon interface.

for some reason windows update didnt list the updated windows live essentials. I downloaded the standalone installer.

Is there any way to have live messenger the size of a normal size messenger? As is, it's nearly the same size as another browser window.

Yes, download the small web installer and chose "custom install". It will detect which programs are already on the system and offer to upgrade them.
