Sounds like a reasonable assumption. Good to remember though as it seems somewhat illogical! Thanks for that.

I have a problem with the Blizzard App - and it started today - if WFC is disabled it (Blizzard App) connects to the network, but if WFC is ON it can't connect :(

"Dumb question": Is your WFC set to medium filtering level and you have already created a related allow rule?

I've noticed that WFC blocks itself every now and then. I did a WHOIS query and the last time it was blocked, yesterday, was a destination to Akamai Technologies, Inc. A week before that it was Cloudflare, Inc. and RIPE Network Coordination Centre.
I've got the WFC default rules included, which include the wfc.exe updater rule.

Anyone else notice this? I'm curious as to why it's doing it.

    Windows Firewall Control v.4.9.9.2

    Change log:
    - Improved: Added tooltips and color indicators in the activation dialog to make the activation process more intuitive.
    - Fixed: Removing hundreds of rules at once in Rules Panel makes the window unresponsive until the action is actually finished.
    - Fixed: There is no progress indication in Rules Panel for long running tasks, like when importing a large partial policy file or when creating duplicate rules for multiple rules at once.
    - Fixed: The confirmation dialog which is displayed when "Blocked connections" check box is unchecked in Connections Log is not displayed in the center of Connections Log but in the center of Rules Panel.
    - Fixed: When the program is locked, depending on where the mouse pointer is placed over the unlock button, the tooltip still displays "Lock..." instead of "Unlock...".
    - Fixed: The Local Addresses combo box from the Properties dialog should not contain any tooltip since this field does not support special keywords.

    New translation strings:
696 = Activation code must have 16 characters
697 = Invalid activation code. Make sure you use the latest version of the program.
698 = The activation code is valid

    Removed translation strings:
790 = Please choose the folder where do you want to search for executable files
    791 = files

Just to warn other users.Zemana Antimalware quarantined this when updating via new version message.
Either switch off Zemana and update or restore the update from quarantine and run it.
    default location:C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Local\Temp

If you scan exe with Zemana it finds nothing and doesn't quarantine it. Bizarre.

Alexandru, you should consider joining the whitelist program with Kaspersky: http://whitelist.kaspersky.com/whitelist_program
The Kaspersky behavior blocker detects WFC as malicious during installation (not via signatures, so it's clean on Virustotal)

Just FYI - Windows 10 is putting up a Windows Defender Smartscreen message when trying to run the 4.9.9.2 installer.

I had no issues at all with the latest version. I DID check for an update from within the program and clicked yes to upgrade. It went directly through without a hitch. :thumb:

If you need assistance, please give us more details. What doesn't work ? Do you see any error ? The program just quits out of nowhere ? When ? The installation went fine ? Your current post doesn't help the community, nor me as the developer. Do you use RivaTuner Statistics Server ? What antivirus do you use ? Etc...

Thanks for your reply. After upgrading, the program just quit and even after a reboot it would not start. I was too busy yesterday, but I just did a fresh installation this afternoon and so far everything seems to work fine:)

For the user of the german language file:

The translation file is already sent to the developer and should be ready on binisoft.org very soon!

Die Übersetzungs-Datei ist bereits an den Entwickler gesendet und sollte sehr bald auf binisoft.org bereitstehen!

If I may ask, how did you manage to uninstall and do a clean install? Since Windows 10 pushed the Creators Update, WFC crashes immediately for me instantly when trying to bring up any screen, including, apparently, the uninstall screen. I tried updating to the latest 4.9.9.2, and the update went through, but it still crashes anytime I try to open program windows. It appears to be a compatibility issue with either the version of the .NET Framework or DirectX 9 that Microsoft included in the creator's update, since the crash logs are always the following two events, in order:

    Application: wfc.exe
    Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: exception code c0000005, exception address 00007FF9AC67FD0C

    Followed by:

Faulting application name: wfc.exe, version: 4.9.9.2, time stamp: 0x5979dba7
Faulting module name: d3d9.dll, version: 10.0.15063.0, time stamp: 0x631de416
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x000000000000fd0c
    Faulting process id: 0x1ad0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d30b9da4cc3f35
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Windows Firewall Control\wfc.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d9.dll
    Report Id: 4aac0b73-5de5-488a-ae3d-cd6b2f652def
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:

Is there a workaround for this issue until a fix is available, like some way to force WFC to do a clean install without needing to uninstall it first? If not, what's the detection mechanism for determining whether an install should be clean or an upgrade? If I just need to manually delete a registry key or two, that's no problem.

    Hi Alamei,

I use Revo Uninstaller, it does remove all trace of the program. Anyway it seems to work for one day then it started crashing again, so for now I uninstalled it again. Hope the next version will
fix this problem. In the mean time I am using TinyWall.:)

If you use a program named Rivatuner Statistics Server, open it and set Application detection level to None. There is no fix to make in WFC since a 3rd party application crashes WFC and other .NET applications too.
Below you can read how to manually uninstall WFC if something goes wrong and the uninstaller doesn't work:

Ah... didn't even think about that, since I never had issues with it historically. I wonder what changed with the Win10 Creators Update to suddenly make it an issue on my configuration.

Regardless, thanks for the fix! Everything's back to working perfectly.

EDIT: Never mind, it appears that this is a known issue with RTSS and Windows 10 Creators Update: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1359345. It appears the new beta versions of RTSS are partially designed to resolve that issue.

Feature request: automatic sync, so a master instance can update a slave. It could be done by publishing rules to disk and the other side monitoring the location and importing, or by IP communication.

Not urgent, as I could write a script to do it, but, in case more users want it, I put forward the request.

It is true for a laptop that is kept in sync with a desktop.

Do you see this for wfc.exe or wfcs.exe ? The notifications system may generate a higher CPU usage if many connections are made in a very short time. For example, when using a torrent client with many peers connected.
