On Windows 7 does anyone have the Windows Defender tray icon appear?

I think it only appears if something is found.

Windows Defender is a good supplemental protection. Some AVs disable it during installation/configuration like VIPRE. I have used it for few days along with my current security setup and did not face any problem or slowdowns.

    Does Avira do that?

Avira disables it saying there is a conflict but Avira does that with any other antispyware. AVG is another program that disables WD.

If you run a custom scan and have Avast scan memory then Avast! will detect the WD sig files in memory. However other then that I have seen no other conflicts with Avast!. I think some if the Avast! mod's use to use WD next to Avast in the past.
