    Yes.

Right click on the task bar (or however you want) to open the task manager. Once open, go to the startup tab. Right click on the Windows Defender notification icon and set it to disabled. (See link to pic). I can't remember if it needs a reboot but when done, it will disappear. Have done this on a few machines with the Creators Update Enterprise Edition. No issues.

EDIT: If you want to disable it just use O&O Shutup 10 for an easy way to disable WD. Or you can use Group Policy etc. It is up to you.

Unless you can't turn down screen brightness and don't want your machine to sleep.

Yes it did on my machines, thanks. I was not worried about the icon itself, but one less unnecessary startup item, although it had no impact

No reason to change, I have Avira on two fast notebooks, and it is definitely lighter than Windows Defender.

Its light on Enterprise LTSB. I think the reason there's minimal impact on resources is the absence of useless bloatware. And you have a faster and more secure system by design.

Indeed, but at what price? thousand of $ or a cracked version...i can't afford to pay it nor wan't to crack it. so not much opportunity to use it for common human.

The samples and various tests results are available for regular MT members , his pack (862 files originally) was trimmed to 324 , many doubles were removed.

...and - There were a lot of PUP’s in this malpack, a lot of them were not malicious, even though a lot of them had high VT detection ratios… basically good PUP detection.

    C/P from here

Makes sense. I have not used Avira in awhile. I am on KIS 2018 at the moment. So far so good.
