    I've had it on for about 4 months and it even detected a nasty worm. I think it's fine if one doesn't consider it as the sole security, I've reverted to Avira only because I have a two years subscription and it is as light as WD.

    I'm not sure yet, but I'm planning to stop paying money for AVs, as free versions are good enough using Sandboxie and Shadow Defender.

    I'm thinking that my idea of having it do a secondary scan is just about worthless - it has never found a thing....

    Yes I have it running. I consider AV in general to be useless technology so it's there mostly as a backup plan if actual defences fail. Since it doesn't bother me false positives, popups for every single action, and it not a drag on resources, I'm comfortable with it just running.

    If it ever starts bothering me (e.g. with popups), it's gone, and I won't run AV.

    Hi,
    I have Background Intelligent Transfer Service set to Automatic (Delayed Start) and Windows Update set to Automatic. I am confused about how you can get updates two times automatically with Windows Update set to Manual!

    I've also the had same problem. Also it was causing audio latency problems on one of my laptops.

    I've also had a lot of problems with CPU spikes with (the antispyware only) Windows Defender under Windows 7, and disable it permanently at the first sign of high CPU use.

    I faced that problem with MSE in Win7 but Windows Defender in Win8 does not show such problem.

    Ty,

    I have Windows Update set to Manual too. But I run a Scheduled Task everyday which updates Defender.

    Code:
    @echo off
    if not defined RunTask set RunTask=1 & start "Defender updates" /min %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe /c "%0" & goto :EOF
    "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -SignatureUpdate

    Starting with the (Windows) 8.1 update, WindowsDefender is my only security app on my both computers. The program alone seems to be mature enough to withstand the dangers of the current online environment.

    As to whether to keep it or not, time will tell.
