Almost agreed, after hardware vendors woke up and the SP1 release, I've enjoyed Vista for quite a while.
Now see, there you've made me cry. ME was an utter wreck. The horror imposed on my parents using that version won't be forgotten. Win8 Metro seems to have the same capacity, for different reasons but still.

It was much better with SP1.

Most people didn't know it from Windows 98 if you didn't point it out to them. The only issue I ever had with it was network drivers immediately after its release but once those were updated I had no problems. It did seem to prefer AMD CPUs though.

This seems like it's going to confuse people even more. Now you have two different styles for the interface, yet only one of them is called "Windows 8 Style UI."

I guess the desktop apps are "Windows 7 Style UI?" Well, sort of because they changed the window borders but kept the same glossy icons.

I'm sure they'll come up with something else to call it besides Metro....

This should prove to be interesting...
Microsoft sticks to its guns, keeps Do Not Track on by default in IE10

You've got to be kidding me?... it should NOT be that difficult. WTH were they thinking with this nightmare?

And funny how so many are hating on people for being stubborn and not "upgrading" from XP to 7. But are reluctant themselves now to do the same, and equally as stubborn.

    lol... pot, meet kettle

Yay! The worst microsoft release since Windows ME is going to be available in October! I don't think I've ever cared less, Microsoft couldn't pay me enough to install their garbage tablet-ized piece of garbage. There are AOL CDs worth more than the entirety of Windows 8 IMHO (And AOL was terrible that should speak volumes about W:cool:.

Don't by into MS garbage between the Killswitch and the horrible Metro UI (They're going to abandon the term because of how hated it is, isn't that just adorable?) they built an OS doomed to fail.

Maybe even the worst MS release "including" ME.

If their goal is to make users flock to Apple/Linux... they're doing a fantastic job.

I love Win8. I didn't when I tried the first beta but now I'm impressed. Metro is easy to use and I don't miss the Start Menu at all.

    I think it's better than Win7.

once you get familiarized with Metro (a couple of days) it's pretty good.

it is slightly faster than Win 7 on my machine for daily use.
though my old video card seems to be struggling more under Win 8 for gaming.
i'll have to test the RTM when it comes out to see if this better...

IE 10 is smokingly fast on Win 8.
the auto-spell auto-correction is pretty neat.

looking forward to give the RTM a try.

I used each release for a while, and granted, you can get used to it and adjust somewhat with time. But I bet if you take a poll of the general public a month or two after it's release, you'll find that 90% of the people hate it. It's not about whether the start menu is there or not, but more about non-touch screen desktop and laptop users having Metro forced on them when it's totally inappropriate and unnecessary. When I installed and used it, even after weeks, the only thought that came to mind was "this would be great if I could just get this Metro stuff out of the way".

Anyway, sometime in December, take a poll... :)

    Kerodo,

Let's wait and see if it's successful.

I didn't think I'd ever say this but I prefer having my apps in Metro rather than in a standard Start Menu. Easier for me to customize the shortcuts.

Remember the You Tube Video where the guy shows the best way to Install Vista? Where he puts it through a paper Shreader? Same will happen with Windows 8
