I can assure that any system administred by me does have it enabled. If the user can't run something, then the user doesn't get the chance to be stupid. Period.

Microsoft is taking away this control from what is suppose to be an upgrade to Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate versions - targeted to enterprises as well. That's the whole issue. I couldn't care less if they don't have it Windows 8. It never was present in Windows 7 lowest versions.

It doesn't make any sense to take it away, from versions meant to be used in enterprise environments as well. Except what you mentioned already - $.

As for what concerns the home user, if Microsoft was really concerned, and if the home user actually knew how certain Windows built-in apps work, they would sue Microsoft - Windows Media Player is one. It can't play quite a few formats... Formats that other free media players play just damn well.

If I pay for Windows, then I'd expect Media Player to be functional, and for example allow me to play *.avi, *.flv, etc. Something that it does not play.

Good thing that alike Internet Explorer, it can't come in the European version. :D

Maybe European Comission will do the opposite about AppLocker. Force it to come in the European version. lol

I'm kinda hoping Win 8 doesn't make it to Europe personally. ;)

This is actually interesting. Looking at the above screenshot made me think of something. Instead of hating Metro, we kind of could love it, provided that Microsoft actually made it more interesting.

What I mean is this -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudoku

Basically, to be able to open an item from the Metro Start menu, we'd need to win something Suduku-like.

At least, we'd have something that would actually exercice our brain. Or, give us a suicide tendency... :doubt:

So, who wants a Metro Suduku Start? :D

LOL! Part of me wants to think that Metro is 21st Century & minimalist cool & part of me thinks that it is like something an eight year old designed.

I think they're probably just counting downloads and/or installs of 8, and not taking into account that perhaps 80% or more of those uninstalled it within a day or two... That just means there are a lot of curious people, but not many that actually like it. :)

They can easily count usage by how many people are downloading the windows updates over periods of time.

I would assume so by the way it's worded. But other than that, no idea.

I said that Windows 8 would be a failure at the enterprise level and this confirms it.

Firstly, you're reading an article by SJVN, a FOSS fanatic. Why is he allowed to make Windows articles? Your guess is as good as mine.
Secondly, WoA isn't for business, x86 tablets are.... Anyone who honestly thinks businesses would be interested in a tablet with no backwards compat is really silly, but that's the typical SJVN article for ya. :) x86 tablets will have ALL the features of a desktop, and the power, that's the point. Otherwise, why not get an iPad?

    hmmm...

they probably have more patience than i do.

i 'did' the DP and the CP.
i think i only lasted an hour or 2 in both cases. lol

i will certainly give the RC another try when it comes out.

I thought that X86 tablets would be AD capable but the article said they would not be so from your reply I can take it that the author was wrong when he said X86 tablets would not be AD capable, correct?

Nop, I'm pretty sure they are counting usage with the help of telemetry data. Their telemetry is pretty advanced, they get a wealth of useful info.

I'm not saying anything bad about it really, it's not so bad once you adjust to it. But if it has Metro when it's released, then I'm not interested. I've pretty much already made up my mind. I'll stick with 7 and linux as long as I can in that case....

Yes, the author is wrong. He is over sensationalising lies, which isn't uncommon for him. The x86 version on tablets is code-exact to the desktop version. They differ in no way.

It's pretty pathetic that CNET still have him around really.
