I like Metro. I have customized it to my needs, removed unneeded Apps and draged my Apps to the left. I find my aplications faster now then in win7. I see Metro as a fullscreen startmenue and that made the trick for me. When you open Metro for the first time you get too many "store" apps and it seems like overkill, thats what scaring people.
Other than that Win8 shuts down and boots in a few seconds. Copy seems to be faster now too. The live logon is optional and u need to choose "local account" while installing Win8.
Overall im impressed. Everything is faster now (workflow, loading aplications, boot/shutdown etc.) and thats the most important thing for me.

They haven't found it worthwhile to change "Tap" to "Click" for PCs without touchscreens, i.e the majority of them. :D

Edit: how do you zoom in a PDF in the built in Reader?

I'm having severe DPC latency issues, dropouts at almost regular, 15 sec intervals.
    dpc.png

Wish me luck in finding out what's causing it. :p
Plain install, no applications running in background. Probably an issue with crappy Realtek sound drivers included in Win install.

With most things in Windows you can zoom or enlarge/shrink using Ctrl+mousewheel.

Default graphics drivers suck. If you're on ATI they have a special Windows 8 driver out: -http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/win8/amd_catalyst_win8_consumer_preview_%5Brc10%5D.exe-

Thanks, completely forgot about that. :) Since there wasn't any zoom option when right clicking on pdf I thought there were no zoom capabilities. They should put the zoom option in the "More" section of the right click options, or somewhere where it's noticeable. Not a lot of people will remember the key shortcut. :)

I just re installed windows 8 .. was actually trying to reset it through the settings but it just got stuck in a boot loop so installed it again
and this time there was a driver update in windows update and everything looks good now
If there was just an option to disable metro ...

Does latest Nod32 work with Win 8 CP?

    same here.
the problem with once you disable metro, you're back to W7, basically.

which begs the question, "is this worth the price they want me to pay?".

for me the answer is no.

for tablets and such, it's a great idea and i wish M$ the best of luck.

Lookwise it will be back to windows 7 but there are too many under the hood settings that make them different
Im not telling i hate the metro look..it will take time to adjust but there should be an option thats my point

i totally agree with you Champ. :)

I personally wouldn't attempt it. Even if you install it successfully, and it "works" when you look at it, there's just too much under the hood stuff that may go wrong as Eset haven't tested NOD under Win8.

Well beta is quite a disappointment for me. Yes, it is fast and without bugs unlike dev, but at least dev was still manageable, beta is not. I feel, like I am completely out of control. I wonder, why MS is pushing metro so hard, when it is obvious, that is not a good choise for desktop, desktop is not a touchpad, it is like playing a console game converted to desktop, but with console controls in place. Accessing all apps or even opening control panel takes much more time than through normal start menu, through which it took only half of second with 2 clicks. And MS, where is restart, do I really have to log out and then restart from log on menu, so operation, that took 1 sec before takes ~30 sec now, seriously? Unfortunatelly, metro can not be disabled in beta like in dev, so I have too look at this every time I start PC. Well, at first, MS destroyed normal quick launch menu in 7 and turn it into unusable ****, now it took start menu button, which let me access everything fast, if takes Links from me, I am really gonna loose it.

Nope. Move mouse to top right and hit "settings" and shut down.

This is probably why youre having problems. You actually need to try to make use of it. Instead of removing every app from the start page and crippling the new UI and then subsequently calling it crippled why not embrace and make use of the new UI. You might realize how easy it is to use.

So, Windows 8 now looks like that piece of garbage? o_O Gee, and I thought Linux look wasn't pleasant (older Gnome, etc versions). I take that back. o_O

Windows 8 looks hedious. If they think for a second I'll be spending my money on that crap, they're out of luck. :thumbd:

Not to mention taking away the Start Menu. I am using Windows 7 Start Menu as an application launcher, just by typing hot keys in Search programs and files. Now, I won't have that in Windows 8? I don't call to that evolving... :ouch:

I'm looking at Windows 7 desktop, and then I'm looking at those screenshots... No comparison, Windows 7 looks way better. :isay:

Someone within Microsoft is consuming some heavy stuff, that's for sure.

I know about that, but it takes longer, at least 2 secs, and you have to wait for OS, and that is the point of 8, it complicates all simple things to insanity.

Why? Just because MS says, this is now modern and good for everyone, I shall just blindly obey? I used dev for 6 months, so tested it more than enough and I really really learned to hate it. I do not use inbuilt MS aplications, just because MS says, that they are good enough, or default settings, OS is supposed to serve me and not the opposite. I allways tweak OS against odds of "professionals" and I get twice as fast and stable OS, that does as I order to it, just like 8 after I tweaked it.
Thanks, did not know about it, and a great example, how MS twisted everything. And you really have to go to the corner, not an inch further or it wont open, typicall MS work, like the twisted quick launch menu, which changes size and icon placement, so unpractical and if left at icon sizes, hard to hit anything fast. 8 is great for old ladies.

It would be interesting to hear from some folks who have been using Windows phone7 and were familiar with Metro before installing Windows 8 CP. I'm guessing they are a lot more comfortable with it. The problem is a great many people are not using Windows phone7 phones. Even so it doesn't make sense to optimize a desktop UI for touch control when the desktop is exclusively controlled with keyboard & mouse. This might be great on an HP Touchsmart PC, but obviously most of us don't have one. I'm hoping someone will post a Youtube video tutorial showing how to really get around this OS with keyboard and mouse. Given the limited skills of the average users I support who currently use XP/Vista/7 I would never recommend this. I think it will completely frustrate them.

    You can also WindowsKey+X

Ctrl+Alt+Del is even faster, bottom right corner.

Its the same in Win8. Windows Key + start typing what u want, UI changes to query results.

    Heres a good keys list:

That is a good list. Was gonna post it if you hadn't. Winkey+C is handy. :thumb:

I think it has been mentioned before in this thread but also Alt+F4 closes the apps. But that has always worked.

I always found working with the mouse is easier, the keyboard seems far away and the other hand is usually doing something else, like supporting my head.
You can close metro apps by moving the mouse on the upper part of the screen, grabbing the app via left click and closing it by dragging it down.

Also, by right clicking and choosing "Close". If you move the mouse down the left of the screen after moving it the to the upper left, it is the same as pressing Windows Key + Tab. That makes it quicker to select the app(s) to close.
