I've installed Win 8 CP and I have to say I'm able to move around in it much better for some reason. I thought here we go again, but after spending about 30 minutes with it I have concluded this will work on a desktop to my surprise.

Heard lots of complaints about the start button removed, but I think it's removal helps the user avoid wrong turns.

Wrong turns? LOL It would help if someone mentioned that there's a slide-out toolbar on the right side of the screen with the settings normally accessed through the Start Button, such as turning off the machine.

I guess that would be me mentioning it

I'm running the 32bit version in Vbox. It installed smoothly (and quickly compared with XP&7) and is working fine. More later...

Yep, that was mentioned on another forum and made it much easier for me to adjust. Sorry for not mentioning it.

Just installed it here. Looks pretty nice... I am impressed. I thought the installer would let me burn an ISO to disk, but it never went thru anything like that, it just installed over top of 7. Anyway, I think I'll use 8 full time now.

Yes, I agree, very much improved. The whole integration is better...

Just wiped away the dev preview and installed the CP. Soooo much better, many many bugs fixed. Also signed in with my live id/Microsoft account for cloud settings, very nice.

    Hey,
Yes that is correct I do mean the Queen's English
Its not a deal breaker for the preview but I thought it would be included.
Overall I like windows 8 alot. it feels faster than 7. Im not sure about the removal of the start menu but its not a deal breaker and I will get used to it.
I do like the improved multiple monitor support by having a task bar per monitor. Im glad Microsoft finally include a pdf reader. there isnt many apps in the store to test so I cant really comment on that yet. I will buy it when it comes out and hope they do preorder deals. I like the live ID integration showing calender skydrive etc.

Tapped into a DSL line and got a copy! I find that kind of difficult to get the toolbar to come up. There seems to be points where is does and others where it doesn't. Probably doesn't help I am running it in a VM. Not sure how I feel about Windows 8 yet. There are things I like, and things I don't. I am finding a lot of use for old keyboard shortcuts, like Alt+F4 and Winkey+F.

    allright...
    i'll bite :)

tried the DP back then and it worked flawlessly.

i wasn't expecting to throw money at M$ so soon after W7.

hopefully, i can get a pre-RTM sale discount like W7 last times.

i'll probably try a few Linux distros later this year before making a decision though.

Don't like the way it handles Music and Pictures. Also gives out to much information. I would not buy this. Gonna stick with Win 7 Pro 64bit for awhile.

Windows Live Family Safety is broken for me. That may make for a short experiment if I can't figure it out.

I had to reformat that partition, unfortuantely. Solved the issue though. I lost some stuff I didn't mean to lose though...

Was going to guess that you did an upgrade, because that never goes without issues :D There were actually 4 or 5 updates already on WU. Shame to hear you lost stuff :/

Yeah I thought I'd copied it to my other partition but I actually copied a shortcut lmao really dumb on my part.

Unfortunately I lost a few documents but nothing I can't recreate.

Very happy with it now that it's all set up.

Compared to 7, what are you guys seeing in terms of 8's RAM use?

Btw, has anyone here installed it on VBox?

Can you guys post pics of the latest Windows 8 CP and what is your experience, is it compatible with all Windows 7 Software? :D :thumb:

I certainly appreciate where you're coming from. I would rather have Win 7's layout but so far it's not something to prevent me from pursuing Win 8.

    all my software works.
except UX Style which has been disabled in the W7 to W8 transfer.

don't worry, it's just Windows 7.015 as far as i'm concerned.
pretty much all your software should work.

in fact, you can hot-install W8 over W7 with the Setup tool without burning a DVD while you're still working with your computer and sipping coffee.
    that's how similar W8 and W7 are...

excuse me while a restore an image.

BTW, a few days ago i saw this article released about someone who did a few sketches on how Windows 8 "Metro" style should have looked.

To be honest with you guys, i think this should have been how it looked. Current "Metro" style UI is not even metro and makes everything overly complicated, IMO i think they are desperate to change the UI a bit since it's been the same for ages but they came up with the worst possible option!! :D
    Now it looks all cluttered.

Windows 8 UI Concept done by a fan

Microsoft should fire all their designers xD
This UI also lines up more accordingly to their new Windows logo IMO.

Fire them? I don't even think Microsoft hired them; I think it were some kindergarden students who came up with the Windows 8 Metro design. ;)

That said, I don't like the concept on that link either. :D I'm actually glad one can still use the old  Windows 7 look. Or, have they taken away that as well? :argh: From the Consumer Preview build, that is.
