I wonder if they will be introducing those changes in Windows 7 AppLocker, by patching it, maybe with SP2, or even a standalone hotfix? o_O

It probably shouldn't be too difficult, but aren't application packages only part of Winows 8?

Yes. But the other changes aren't specific for Windows 8 or are they?

Windows 8 will probably launch with NTFS, but ReFS will soon be a part of the Windows 8 client. Windows 8 Server will launch with ReFS.

    No, I don't think they're specific to 8.

I think I'll test out the restore functionality after beta. The first thing I do to new laptops is wipe them clean of OEM rubbish, I doubt I'll have that option with tablets. I'm hoping OEM's can't modify the restore function to use their own image, then I can just use it for new tablets to "restore" them clean.

Awaiting more stable beta release. How limited is the developer tools version?

With beta round the corner it would be pointless even installing the dev preview at this point.

How is Windows Defender a security suite?

    Complete and utter nonsense.

Firstly, Defender is not a "suite" by any stretch of imagination, thankfully...
Secondly, did MSE kill the AV industry? Nope, defender is simply MSE renamed. The AV industry will continue to thrive through the monthly fear mongering and many people still live under the belief they need to pay for AV.

The "Windows Suite" I suppose includes MSE, which is a full functioning AV, as well as a Firewall.

It'll make MSE very popular though. Not too good for MSE users.

Why not? Malware makers already target MSE, as well as other AVs - usually they check against services like VirusTotal to make sure their malwares aren't being detected at the first minutes/hours of being spread.

More users will only help improve MSE: more collected data by Microsoft SpyNet (and other feedback channels) = shorter intervals of "non-detection" by MSE, thanks to faster analysis of new threats' behaviors by Microsoft's malware analysts.

MSE is definitely targeted and because of that there's been a steep decline in its ability to catch malware. It holds 33% (last I checked) of the NA market and that's not too far off its detection rate either! lol

Right now it's probably already the first AV targeted. Taking global AV stats into account means maybe looking at Avast or one of the business-oriented AV's.

Collecting information is nice - I was aware of that feature and thought of it when I wrote my post. I don't think it outweighs being targeted heavily though I do think it's a good feature.
