I like 8.1, but I went back to 8 until they fix the refresh/reset feature and decide to make a clean install easier. I would appreciate an official iso from MS. Things that used to be easy continue to get harder and harder.

Well I found the key, that works for the setup, for activation has to be used the real one and most likely the same process like for a clean setup of Windows 8 Upgrade.

TOMxEU has posted the offical MS ISO for Windows 8.1. You must have Windows 8.0 key to download it.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

    Hi Tom,

I download it on x64 machine and the download was 3.06GB. When I installed it in VM it installed as x64 OS.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

I think this cannot be used with an OEM key. Shucks, I thought I was making progress.

I'm not clear on how that would work in my case. I guess I'm just getting impatient with MS. They're making more and more hoops. Just like Refresh and Reset are broken now. I updated to 8.1 via the store only to find out you can't Refresh or Reset it to 8.1. A recovery disk made from 8.1 is not recognized by 8.1. :(

same here. A recovery image of 8.1 by macrium reflect is not recognized by 8.1. Only one it recognized was AOMEI Backupper image/snapshot.

Didn't know that. Haven't tried Macrium Reflect on 8.1. Thanks for potential heads-up.

Is there confusion here between images made by Macrium and recovery disks for Windows 8.1 in-built recovery/reset? I have found:

Macrium works fine on 8.1 for backup restore of images.

Windows 8.1 in-built recovery & reset to factory defaults is broken in 8.1 for upgraders from 8.0. It asks for a recovery disk (the Windows 8.1 install ISO/disk) to copy across missing files. However it only recognises the official 8.1 ISO/disk which upgrades cannot get from Microsoft. The official 8.0 ISO/Disk which upgraders do possess is not recognised.
