Hmm, getting mixed signals here! Could it be that whether or not Win 8.0 -> Win 10 is doable depends on HOW one attempts to update (i.e., via MS download or by running setup.exe from a DVD/UFD)?

My earlier suggested method shows the System Requirements on the page I linked.

I don't know about other methods, but if you want the free upgrade...

I did notice those requirements Krusty. That's one of the reasons I suggested the possibility that the update method may account for the contradictory messages in this thread.

    Krusty,

Thanks for posting those requirements. As I only upgrade from a UFD I can upgrade from Win7 (non SP1) and Win8.

You can upgrade from 8.0 to 10 using a UFD created with the Media Creation Tool.
Upgrade from Windows 8 (not 8.1) to Win 10 - anyone done it?

The requirements for upgrading changed when Anniversary Update was released. I had a Windows 7 computer which I was initially not able to upgrade to Windows 10, as it did not have SP1 installed. Due to issues with Windows install, everytime I tried to install SP1 it failed. When AU was released, I was able to upgrade without having SP1 installed. It must be the same deal with Windows 8, i.e. when AU was released - you could now upgrade from Windows 8,

    Roger,

Another success for a Win10 1511 UFD created from a Microsoft ISO. I don't use the MCT as it was so unreliable when Win10 was first released.

I just installed Win7 (non SP1) and immediately upgraded to Win10 1511. Just a standard procedure, no issues.

I just installed the original Win8. The ISO was released in October 2012. I immediately upgraded to Win10 1511. Just a standard procedure, no issues. I've done upgrades from original Win8 to Win10 1607 in the past.
