Sound like a good time to move to Linux.

Well, my machines aren't even compatible with Win11, so unless I'm forced to buy new hardware it probably won't affect me too much anyway.

Same here. I have 1 device that I was able to upgrade to Windows 11. I wouldn't be surprised if yet again 12 requires new hardware to run. If that turns out to be the case, as I said above, Linux it is.

I'm actually considering subscribing to 0Patch on this PC once Win10 reaches EOL. That or force Win11. It's only the CPU that fails Win11 requirement.

Krusty, have you tried upgrading with Rufus? After selecting the Win11 workarounds. My hardware "fails".

    G'day Brian,

Yeah and it failed here too. Rufus has had a couple of updates since then. I might look into it again after Bathurst. :thumb:

I had a couple of computers with 3rd generation CPUs, no TPM, no Secure Boot.

Brian, are you saying that you tried updating an unsupported computer to Windows 11 using the Rufus method, and it failed?

Hadron, sorry, Rufus succeeded on "failed" hardware.

Oh, so it worked for you? Not for me when I tried, but I'll look into it again.

    Thanks for the clarification, Brian.
I had no problem using the Rufus method on an 11 year old computer.

Did you try upgrading from within Windows with the Rufus-created bootable USB or booting with the USB? If I remember well, upgrading from within Windows fails even with Rufus-created bootable USB for an unsupported system, and you need to boot with the USB and perform the install.

i also use rufus on a supported systems with options, although i only need to unplug network ^^

anyhow not supported system wont get the half year main updates, eg 22H2 -> 23H2. they will got stuck on the installed major build and will get 1.5 years system updates.

    Possibly that is what happened.

They won't get updates to new builds from Windows Update, but you can manually upgrade.

My system doesn't have secure boot, TPM, or a supported CPU. I successfully performed a clean install of Win 11 a few times with Rufus-created bootable USB for an unsupported system.

Rufus succeeded on "failed" hardware here too. ThinkPad T540p 11/2013.
