The virtual optical drive disappears at the first reboot.
If the upgrade proceeds (despite your CPU) you will have Win11.

Got it. OK, will give it a short later as I'm busy watching some YouTube videos on the machine at the moment.

What's the worst that can happen? I have two image backups from last night if things don't go well.

    Cheers, and wish me luck.

I've never had a problem. It will either tell you your CPU is incompatible (and roll back) or it will succeed and upgrade to Win11.

    Nope, didn't work. First attempt:

I was kind of expecting that though as I suspected Hard_Configurator would interfere.

    Disable H_C, Second Attempt:

Roger described a method (a few months ago) that might work.

It's OK. I'm not sold on Win11 anyway. Win10 works, so do my Linux distros for that matter.

    Thanks for your help anyway.

I got that message to, then i downloaded W11 from another place and used another burner. Voila!

The ISO I downloaded has been verified so I'm OK with using it.

That error came up when trying the method @Brian K suggested above.

There is still no compelling reason for me to force an upgrade.

I think we'll be looking at 12 way faster than 11 came out. It would be smart for them to move forward faster next time.

    From the Internet.

We don't know yet what features are getting cut from Windows 11 and how locked down the operating system will be. However, according to a post by Windows Latest several months ago, it appears SE will be very locked down out of the box. The early build had the following items disabled:
    • Disables News and Interests (Windows Widgets) - I don't need it.
    • Full Win32 app support (S Mode is disabled)
    • Microsoft Store is blocked by default - I don't need it.
    • Settings app adverts for Edge/Bing were removed and Your Phone integration no longer works. - I don't need it.

So it's a second attempt at Windows 10 S. I wish they would quit wasting time on these flops.

I'm impressed! :thumb: I knew you could run Windows 11 on some older processors and get by without having TPM or Secure Boot, but didn't think an MBR partitioned disc was a possibility. :shifty:

    Problems installing W11.

    Ryzen 7 3800x
Asus Rog Strix B550-F - Latest bios flashed. This flash is supposed to fix it so W11 can run on this MB.
    32GB DDR4

TPM enabled, Secure Boot enabled but still get This PC can't run W11.

When I bought my first pc with Windows XP I was 38 years old.
A nice revolution compared to previous Windows OS.
But this W.11 appears to my eyes more and more a "prison of free will".

Hmm, anyone in Insiders expecting another cumulative update? I have KB5007262 installing just now. Winver 22000.346. No changelog yet--404 on page you get when you click on the link in the update history in Settings app.

    Update:
New Windows 11 build 22499.1010 doesn't bring "anything new" as it is a servicing update
