Not anymore than an 8.1 satisfied user don't get how some preferred 7 over 8/8.1.

10 notwithstanding however illogical that may sound.

For me it equates to snappiness and speed without interruption or bandwidth telemetry analysis.

Where have you been, imdb?! There's a severe shortage of gpus out there. Zero. Nuttin'. I've been trying to score an rtx 3070 for months now. And an LG Ultragear monitor to go with. :'(

Actually, my current gtx1080 benchmarks very well for a 5+ year old card and is still quite capable. Monitor too. It's just 1080p though, best I can do for now. I grabbed a random image off the net, put it on my desktop and it looks great. So it's all Microsoft's fault really. :isay:

now, i can understand those who prefer 7 over 8/8.1. because, just like vista, 8/8.1 is and does feel incomplete. and 7, otoh, was and felt solid, just like xp.

    Fantastic news (I hope)
Downloaded the Windows 11 ISO and am going to take my a proverbial seat on the front row to see things a little closer what some are excited about.

Agreed. Not to belittle anyone's preferences but I thought 8/8.1 were the worst Windows of all time. I'd rather run Vista or even ME over 8. It was the only OS that made my laptop fans run 100% all of the time and required Classic Shell for me to be able to use it any bit efficiently. I feel 10 is less polished than 7 was but I have yet to have a BSOD with 10. We'll see how 11 goes. It appears to have potential when I can get it on anything other than a test VM and customize it.

Wow But I highly respect anyone's personal choice of the Windows platform to their own satisfaction and reliable results.

It just happens on this end that I skipped entirely Win 7 and layed on XP until Windows 8. After so much negative press MS upgraded it to 8.1 and I found it vastly better then the initial plain 8 release. Never a blue screen or bogged down like earlier versions plus turned out stable much to my surprise. In fact so much so that it became necessary to add more 8.1 units for my malware & security program testings etc.

Funny timing. Only now am transitioning (albeit) slowly to Windows 10 and what to our surprise? Suddenly enter Windows 11. So it might even be safe to say I skipped Windows 10 only to discover that Windows 11 is nearly about to make it's debut.

Absolutely 8.1 was better than 8. I had to run the entire suite of Stardock software to use Windows 8. Working in IT I have run every version of Windows until the next one came out for the experience as there are always customers that will be running something that I would rather not be unfamiliar with. With Windows 11 coming soonish you may as well skip 10. I've only played with it for a day but if it is a polished enough product I think some of the folks that did not like 10 will like 11. It was interesting to play with something that felt different. In my opinion 11 feels more different than anything else has in a while. Firefox 89 and Windows 11 take a bit of the boredom away. For the moment.

I was having trouble installing it on two old laptops. After I followed instructions regarding replacing a dll file, it still would not install. I no longer received the error message stating Secure Boot and 4GB of RAM was required, but it was replaced with message saying "This PC doesn't meet the minimum system requirements to install this version of Windows." However, I found a simple solution.

Right now, I'm installing it on a 15-year-old laptop.

I had trouble with a 1 year old computer. I saw, "This PC doesn't meet the minimum system requirements to install this version of Windows."

After entering the UEFI BIOS and enabling PTT (Intel Platform Trust Technology) as well as TPM, all is OK. These items need to be enabled to do a clean Win11 install and a Win10 to Win11 upgrade. Just enabling TPM isn't enough. PTT needs to be enabled as well.

I don't think any of my systems have PTT. But it installed fine after copying the files from Windows 10 installation media as per the link I posted.

    Roger,

Does your 15 years old laptop have a Legacy MBR BIOS?

Yes it does, due to the age. However, I'm not sure if any of my UEFI systems have PPT.

    Thanks,

I'll try your method to install to a MBR BIOS computer.

With a MBR computer, you have to use the link Roger posted and use Rufus to make a UFD that boots in MBR mode.

With a UEFI computer, you can enable PTT and install Win11. If you don't have PTT, use the link Roger posted.

I have the ISO and am chomping to have a peep at it,

but was terribly diverted in order to fix an error on one of my 8.1's of "Windows is missing some files insert media" BECAUSE OF "Windows couldn't find Recovery" when doing a REFRESH with the custom WIM. Reagentc /enable failed. Took all night but finally solved it with this: Re Register The Path.

After a second day of playing with this I can say that I do not like the Power options being on the right side of the start menu. It is pretty much the opposite of how it is in Windows 10 and after being used to clicking start and then selecting shut down or restart you now have to move to the other side of the menu to click it. I realize you can also right click the start button and select the options from that menu but again it is awkward when the habit of how it worked before is stuck in your mind.
