Was not able to install last week's Dev channel build. Currently doing a clean reinstall and then updating to the build released today. Hopefully this will reduce future problems.

Win 11 will likely be allowed to be installed on 'incompatible' PCs but MS will not support automatic updates, you'll need to do updates manually, or via forums offering tweaked installation ISOs My PC has 'secure boot' but only a TPM v1.2, and my I7M is not on the approved CPU list, but was running win11 inside previews. I reverted back to win10 as the previews were a bit unstable, but may install win11 more permanently when it settles and MS admits defeat on the hardware issues. I cannot afford to get rid of my 2 year old PC and buy a new 'compatible' one. heck, even MS brand new 'surface PCs are not 'compatible'.

    Performance tweaks for Windows 11

I don't like system tweaking. But sometimes, it's a must. Here's an article showing how to improve responsiveness in the Windows 11 desktop, including system menu changes, visual effects, power mode setting, minimum processor state value, and other tweaks. Have fun.

It's nuts that 2 year old and especially new PCs are not upgradeable. My 1 year old laptop is but nothing else I come into contact with is. Since I work in IT that is not a small amount of PCs.

Not only should a person not upgrade 2-year-old PC, they should stick with it and the old system for as long as possible. Because hardware is in a place where you can comfortably run anything for a decade without any big performance degradation or compromise. The only question is at what point do you expect components to have a moderate risk of failure, and thus warrant a replacement. Hint: it's at least 7-8 years.

Great! I'm in all the way on that mode of thinking @Mrkvonic and my own results with Windows 8.1 is been nothing short of spectacular. Shhhhh and don't mention to anyone else I have had wonderful success with a series of outdated Gateway PC's- Laptops. The thing just wont die. Since get this 2012! They run nonstop constantly and have for years. I rarely never even turn them off. Occasionally shut them down for inspection and that's it. Or a power failure.

Nice write up again by the way. Thanks

Its not the processor that's the problem. My Surface Pro 3 Intel -i5 Core 4000 isn't officially supported but it runs Windows 11 without issue. Yes, it has TPM 2.0 and secure boot enabled. Performance wise, no difference from the new Surface Pro 8! We don't need to throw away perfectly capable PCs because Microsoft doesn't think the processor is a good fit for Windows 11. If Windows 11 future adoption is low, look for Microsoft moving ahead to grandfather in previously unsupported processors. In my experience, the installer processor check says nothing about the hardware, only about the arbitrary nature of that check.

Heh. Incompatible Surface Pro, indeed. Exactly the device on which I'm running Windows 11!

Especially when Microsoft is giving the middle finger to its enterprise customers not in a hurry to upgrade because of the new hardware requirements for Windows 11.

Absolutely. There are currently only a handful of machines in my company that can run 11.
