    Having read through this I noticed the posts on the bat file, under what circumstances would anyone want a bat file that will break internet activity?...Forgive me if I have misunderstood some of the replies.

    Network services are supposed to "optimize" the network connection, but if you have got a reliable connection, they can actually cause problems.
    Disabling "Network Store Interface Service" will disable all network related services and network will run smoothly. You have to setup IP/DNS first.
    The side effects are like inability to setup network (once is enough anyway), it will disable Windows Firewall = Windows Updates, plus other things.

    My currently running services, I had to keep some required by Windows Firewall. :( I just have to enable 3 more, when checking for Windows Updates.

    You can change it to Automatic directly via services.msc

    @BradM
    you can:
    1. back up windows and then do a clean install then back up registry, restore previous windows image and then restore registry backup,
    2. reset windows (you won't lose any data)

    but i recommend you to do a clean install and leave windows services alone. remember, messing with windows services will bring you nothing but trouble, sooner or later.
