Not on my house they don't My Mic and Camera are safe, they can't reach it. My TV isn't smart at all. I also don't buy from Amazon, nor do I use Windows. I also don't have a Facebook account, or Yahoo, and I don't use Google services And I don't have a smartphone too. I know this isn't enough, but by doing these simple things I'm avoiding a HUGE spy-surface.
I'm a little bit offended by Mr. Thurrott calling people who care about privacy "fanatics" and privacy "nuts". Privacy is never a joke or something that should be given away for free. In some countries, journalists and whistleblowers life can pretty much depend of it.
They're doing that already Smart TVs have cameras and mics. Amazon's Echo speaker. Siri and Google Now.
all of that is leading to virgins never interacting with another human but having a relationship with a "HER" or "Machina"
I guess it's a good time to live in a poor country like mine, then Or, if I lived in a 1st world, I'd spend a ton o money on used and old things, like cars, TV's, video game consoles, cellphones, etc.
I have an old VW with no computer. Or at least, most of one I've been meaning to rebuild the engine, and do some bodywork. But I never seem to make time for it.
Well, having a computer on-board the car inner-systems isn't really an issue, considering it can't be accessed remotely
I have a smart TV that is probably listening in on my conversations. Fortunately not connected to anything so it has got no where to send the info to.
That seems overly complicated for a "regular" person. I could only see such case happening if he was a veeery valuable target, like "he's a general who might be thinking of bombing our country" valuable.
That's exactly what I do and I generate a decent cash flow selling off the ones I don't want. Yes, you can trust Microsoft, you can trust them the same way you can trust the Catholic church, you can trust them to be themselves. They are always going to act like the institutions they are. That makes them predictable at least. Of course they're going to share your data with whatever government agency compels them to. That was no different in the 90s, they just have more of it these days.
i wouldnt be surprised if there was someone working on it right now. they regard snooping on you and harvesting private data abt you as free $$ to be collected and in their eyes no one is harmed.
Definitely not a general looking to bomb someone. The only reason I am a possible target is that I use encrypted communications as standard. The electrical grid is way too much effort for companies to go to. Just think they get huge amounts of data from 95% of the population who are willing to provide there deepest secrets for a few coupons. I am really not worth that much effort.
i didnt mean you in particular. but say for some for some of these "smart" appliances like refrigerator etc. most people aren't going to grant them wifi access so it will be great for the snoops if the appliance could just report back thru the electrical grid.
I would bet heavily against you on people providing wifi access to smart devices. Remember we care about privacy here but we are no means the average person. Most people would buy a smart refrigerator and connect it straight to our wifi. Look at the rate people are connecting light bulbs, thermostats and tvs.
That doesn't make much sense. There is a lot of people using encryption and that is no reason to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars "just becuause he uses encryption". If there's one thing I learned after reading snowden documents is that it is too expensive for them to attack a single individual. Unless, of course, you're actually valuable.
Sorry didnt mean it like that. Only implying that anybody who uses encryption is considered acting suspiciously and a potential target. Remember the rhetoric of governments associating encryption with extremists. Yes they dont have the resources to monitor everybody who uses encryption but I would be fairly certain government agencies have lists of people who use encryption. That in its nature makes you a potential target, however, until they have some other reason to target you they unlikely will.
Quick Note: I don't use Win 10, I just saw this and decided to post it here. Good Luck! Source Home Page
