Using a custom UEFI firmware, a Windows driver and UEFI developer is getting closer to installing Windows 10 on a Nintendo Switch.

Windows driver and UEFI firmware developer Bingxing Wang has started working on a UEFI implementation for the Nintendo Switch using the EDK II firmware development environment. As the Nintendo Switch utilizes an ARM chipset, the developer is hoping to create a method to port Windows 10 on ARM to the gaming platform.

The devleoper has stated that his project still "Needs massive cleanup and bug fix, additional ACPI and USB work needed", but it is always exciting to see how hackers can force software and hardware to do things that they are not always designed to do.
Wang has open sourced his current UEFI firmware as a GitHub project called NintendoSwitchPkg so that others can see what he is doing an possibly contribute to its development.
