@Krusty13 The system tray icon was introduced a few months back. If you go the Settings tab, there is the option to stop it from loading at startup.

One annoyance with Windows 10, is that if you open a file from explorer, and you have installed new software that can open it, you are asked to choose what software you want to use to open it, rather than it being opened with the default program to open that type of file. You can choose to keep the current default, but, if at some point you install another program that can open that type of file, you will be prompted again. For example, if I open an MP3 file from Windows Explorer, it will open in SMPlayer. If I install another MP3 player, the first time I open an MP3 file from explorer, I will be asked what software I want to use to open it.

This is probably not much of an issue for most people. But, I reguarly install new software.

However, there is some good news too. In SMPlayer I was unable to change any the file types it opens. When I would go to to the File Types tab in perferences, everything is greyed out. SMPlayer was the default player for most files, but there were some video files which were opening in another player. I wanted to make SMPlayer open these files too. By going to set Default Programs in Control Panel, and selecting SMPlayer, I was able to set it as the default for all the file types it supports. There's a "Set this programs as default" option, with with one click sets the selected program to open all the file types it supports, which is handy.

Since Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 and 2016: important update Jan 12, Outlook mail (W10 Mail App) is a mess for me on W10. I am not getting messages. I had to uninstalled it and use another mail app. The Exchange protocol is a dud.

You have to use Powershell to uninstall it in W10. Mail and Calendar App. MS has made it as difficult as they possibly can. No newbie could handle it. I would not be surprised if it came back in the next build. I killed all my accounts, so I do not care. What is MS trying to achieve here?

My family shares a notebook with Windows 10 and they want an AdBlocker for Edge. Is there really none they can use at this time? What about in the future?

In the future Adblock Plus for Microsoft Edge will be available (like there is for IE),
    see: https://adblockplus.org/en/edge.

Does Edge support Tracking Protection List addons (TPL), like IE does?
If so, then perhaps you could add the EasyList Standard addon (which is the EasyList Adblock TPL), from the Internet Explorer Gallery Add-Ons page.
However, I'm afraid that is not for Edge, but IE only.

Here is the current list of OEM PCs for businesses that Microsoft has approved for W10 ...

    Dell's Latitude 12, Latitude 13 7000 Ultrabook, and XPS 13;
    HP's EliteBook Folio, EliteBook 1040 G3; and
    Lenovo's ThinkPad T460s, X1 Carbon, and P70 models.

Re: the change in the MS support policy for businesses. It is intended to assist businesses with the migration from W7/8 to W10.

"For enterprise customers that want to buy "future proof" new hardware based on Skylake processors running older Windows versions, Microsoft will publish "a list of specific new Skylake devices we will support to run Windows 7 and Windows 8.1." That support will run for a period 18 months, until July 17, 2017, after which those enterprise customers will be expected to upgrade to Windows 10." - Source :Znet

The base hardware in the approved models will be best suited to W10 architecture and make best use of W10 future security features that have been specifically announced for the Enterprise.

Microsoft worked together with its PC partners, including Intel, to create the list of approved PCs, as well as to jointly test BIOS updates and drivers. So far, there's no indication that the list of Skylake PCs will include consumer models.

Yes, the list will be updated. The article referred to MS 'W10 partners' and Dell, HP and Lenovo are it.

It is interesting that the Surface Book is not on the list.

Anyone seeing reoccurring KB3119142 Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4? This update installs everyday since the patch Tuesday of 12.2.2016. Any thoughts how to solve it?

Indeed resolved! I had 3 different instances of MS C++ 2012 in the Programs, so I repaired all of them and rebooted. After that I have got only 2 instances and since then no recurring update of the KB. Thanks a lot! ;-)

A few days I found a laptop which had major video issues after upgrading from Windows 7. It's a MSI MS-16Y1/CX640 laptop, and due to issues with the switchable graphics, it boots to a black screen. I was able to get it work by pressing the power button to put the laptop to sleep and then pressing it again to wake it from sleep, after which there were no video issues. But, of course the issue would be there again if I rebooted. Disabling fast startup made no difference, and neither did installing different video drivers. Due to the nature of the switchable graphics, I was not able to change from switchable graphics to using just the nVidia video from the BIOS.

I ended up going back to Windows 7, as it is simply not possible to fix the video issue. According to posts on MSI's forums this has been an issue since Windows 8, leading to some unhappy users, since Windows 8 was released the year after the laptop was released, and MSI's response was that they would not provide any support for Windows 8 since the laptop shipped with Windows 7.

This is the only laptop I've installed or upgraded to Windows 10 where I went back to the original OS.

There is a small bug in Windows 10 that really annoys me.
It is related to Windows Update.

Windows Update informs me that it has installed Windows Updates and needs to restart.
It goes on to say something like this: Right now 2 AM looks like a good time to restart.

I am offered the choice of changing the time or pressing the "Restart Now" button.
If I press the "Restart Now" button, everything works as expected, but the problem becomes evident tomorrow morning at 2 AM when my computer wakes up from sleep even though I have already restarted. I specifically pressed the "Restart Now" button so it wouldn't do that, but it still does.

As far as I know, even changing the time causes this to happen.
The problem has something to do with Windows 10 not cancelling the original request.

    Hello everybody.
Can anyone help me, please? I finally can surf the net with Microsoft Edge, I went on microsoft's website where it told me what to write at Windows Powershell as administrator, I did that, Microsoft Edge works now, but what now does not work is Windows store, apps and similar?
It seems like it is installed but it's all blank, I cannot open any link regarding Windows store and apps, does this have to do anything with Windows powershell that I used to enable Microsoft edge to open and surf normally, can anyone help me?

What I did is the following: I couldn't start Microsoft Edge so what I did is the following:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/.../65d958f4-c427-4cf3-9e35-19df67222b38?auth=1/
    And this:
A simple PowerShell command to re-obtain licenses for your windows store apps is all you require!

    1. Click Start
    2. Type PowerShell
    3. Right Click PowerShell (Desktop App)
    4. Choose Run as Administrator
    5. Copy this by selecting the text and then pressing Ctrl+C

    Then Launch Powershell as administrator and run the following command. Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -Verbose}

    6. Paste it into the PowerShell with Ctrl+V

    7. Press Enter, and wait for the script to complete. You will know it is complete when you see the "PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> _" appears at the bottom of the window.
    8. You may see several Red Errors- around 3 or 4, ignore these- they are normal.
    9. Close PowerShell.
    10. See if your issue was solved, open Microsoft Edge.

    Also, as well as this:
    http://www.windowscentral.com/how-to-reset-microsoft-edge-windows-10

I also did this just to enable for Microsoft Edge to work and open:
    http://www.techtantri.com/how-to-reinstall-microsoft-edge-browser/

I followed also the following instructions:
First we need to delete the corrupt edge folder. The path => C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    Delete the "Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe" Folder

You may not able to delete the folder itself and 2 or 3 files. but it does'nt matter. Select the folder, Hit Delete, Then if it asks for admin privileges, Just hit skip and then ok . Restart the computer.
    Then Launch Powershell as administrator and run the following command. Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -Verbose}

Hit enter and once the command is executed, Quit powershell and restart the computer to complete the process.
The edge browser will be back and running in all its glory.

This is how I managed for Microsoft Edge to work and open and surf the net with Microsoft Edge, but however after I have managed to pen and surf with Microsoft Edge, my Windows store and Microsoft's applications do not work, when you go to apps and features, Microsoft's apps and features do not work at all, you cannot even push uninstall them-since when you try to click on uninstall, the uninstall options are all blank!

Can anyone help me please how to resolve this issue?
Should I be worried about if Windows store does not work and should I be worried when the next major upgrade comes up, will upgrade work despite those Microsoft's apps and features do not work at all?
    Please, help me, somehow....

    Also, I posted here:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...ased-29-jul-2015.368734/page-101#post-2564812

It seems that only Microsoft's apps and features are blank.
Yes, they are there, but when you click on them, well you cannot click on them,
You know what all of these Microsoft's apps or most of them it seems are no longer on my computer, does it mean that I have somehow uninstalled them, but how exactly is that possible if they are actually there, but at the same time they are not there:
Like I said, I have tried to click uninstall but the uninstall option is BLANK.
I'm not sure, I think that I after they did not work I might have written this in powershell:
    Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

But again I'm not100% sure, so how do you know if apps and features are uninstalled in the first place? And if that's the case how do reinstall all of them-if I choose to?
If Microsoft's apps and features are there, than why than don't work at all in the first place?
Big thanks in advance to all posters who can help me.

    A little help?

For some reason I can't run CHKDSK on one machine. If I right click on the Windows Start icon in the Task Bar > Command Prompt ( Admin) type CHKDSK / F > press Enter > press Y to check at next Restart > Restart machine > message on screen says CHKDSK will start in 8 seconds, screen goes black for a second and same message appears on screen. At this point the countdown cancels itself and proceeds to Windows login screen.

Any ideas? I have a SSD if that matters.

    Krusty13,

Is there a Wininit entry written in the Application log (after the computer restarts)?
