    No problem.

How did you go? Did it work?

I ended up reinstalling Win10 from the downloaded DVD. The machine would still boot fine into Windows 7, but Windows 10 was a no-go. And I couldn't go back to an earlier state no matter what I tried: Refresh and Reset and even reverting to 10240 all failed to complete.

Has anyone had trouble doing a clean install of TH2? I cannot get past the screen in which you create an account. I get "something went wrong" every time.

    SirDrexl,

No problems with my clean install. Did you try creating a Local account?

I assume that's what I'm doing because it doesn't say what kind of account it is. It just has "Create an account for this PC" at the top.

Looking at some videos on YouTube, I am not getting the "who owns this PC?" screen first.

Surely I don't have to be connected to the internet, do I? My clean install of the RTM build didn't require it.

I've always been connected during an install. Is that a problem for you? I'm just doing an install now and I'll let you know about the Local Account.

    I see...

Let's get connected (pick your connection. I chose Ethernet)
Get going fast (Use Express settings)
Who owns this PC? (I own it)
Make it yours (click Skip this step)
Create an account for this PC (create Username and password for a Local Account)

    That's it!

Thanks, but I finally got it working. I had included some tweaks to be automatically applied upon installation, and maybe the setup program didn't like that. After removing them from the flash drive, it would proceed. However, I'm not entirely sure if that's what did it, because at the same time I changed a setting in the BIOS related to power management. I had been having issues with the computer turning on, and I think the motherboard didn't like that.

I like to do it offline so that I can lock some things down first. I also don't want it automatically installing drivers before I can. When I did the in-place upgrade, it installed everything in the Nvidia driver package, without giving me a chance to uncheck stuff I don't have.

I see that the Edge Chakra Javascript engine is pretty fast. I have not used Edge yet as I have FF (w/noscript) as the default.

Javascript in browsers used to be seen as a security threat - do members still disable it, or is that old wisdom now?

It is a security issue. From the threads I follow, most of us who are concerned about it use browser extensions like Noscript and uMatrix to limit and control it. For certain applications like using a dedicated browser for one or two sites, I would consider disabling JS in the browser and whitelisting the domains that are needed for the site to function. I'm currently using Chrome that way as a client for Google Voice but I haven't gone to that extreme yet. I'm using Script Blocker for Chrome. Doing it with the browser would be faster and more secure.

If you turn Javascript off in Edge does it diminish the speed for loading pages very much ? Can it be turned off?

Pages should load faster without javascript but they will be incomplete or broken in most cases. It depends on the site. I browse most news sites with javascript blocked and have to enable it for very few if I just want to read the text. Some require at least some script for pictures and videos but even there, there are some that work. What does load without javascript will load faster. Less data and less processing without scripting.

Javascript for Edge can be disabled in the Group Policy Editor. I can't think of anything in its settings that does this but I haven't used it for anything but a quick test run so I might not have found it.

Tnx MisterB - have just located it in Group Policy. It is enabled by default - I'll disable it. There are currently no extensions for Edge.

As an aside: Today I see that MS accidentally revealed a website for downloading extensions for Edge. It was taken down by MS rather quickly, but some people are saying what they saw is pretty promising. Providing an extension like Noscript would be better as MS has the tendency to reset GP settings out of the blue.

Attempted to upgrade from Windows 8.1 pro to Windows 10 numerous times but always received the error message "windows update 80070005 or windows update dt000 (1)".
Searched for this error message and attempted a few fixes without success, then saw that you had a similar problem that you fixed by using "Tweaking.com - Windows repair" so thought I'd give the software a try myself.
Happy to say the software fixed whatever the problem was and the upgrade went though without a hitch, so impressed I purchased the pro version from Tweaking.com.

    Thanks for the tip:)
    Cheers.

Has anyone else had a problem with Windows Explorer refreshing? If I move, copy, or delete files they do not show up without pressing f5. Some machines show a bigger problem with this than others. I have one that does it rarely, one that does it every time, and some in between. Is anyone aware of whether this is a known bug or if there are any settings or registry tweaks to fix it? Thanks.

I tried Edge for 2 weeks and I am not very impressed with it. It runs slow for some reason. If there is a tweak that someone knows about, please let me know. I did use IE11 for a bit for a financial site (nothing else) - it loaded pages quickly, but now it is really slow. Not sure what is going on. I downloaded Chrome and it is running OK - not slow. FF is not as fast, but it is still not like Edge and IE11. It is as if it is waiting for a service that is tied up, though not evident in process explorer, so maybe it is external - MS servers maybe?

I thought Edge was actually quite snappy and fast when I used it. What killed it for me though, was no ad blocking, and it only worked on some Netflix shows, but not others, it would break with an error that I was unable to track down or find info on. Bottom line: Edge needs a lot more work to be usable on a daily basis. But oddly enough, I found it pretty fast, and not slow at all. Strange...

@Kerodo It was snappy when I first gave it a try, but over the past few days, not so.

About an hour ago I decided to reset the hosts file using a script I got hold of. That helped. It's not so slow loading pages right now.

I intend to keep Chrome as my default browser though.

Yeah, that's what I did too when I was using 10. I chose Chrome for my daily needs... and then just played with Edge now and then for fun.
