Brian, that machine has already upgraded.

I have the ISO burned to DVD but I'll wait until tomorrow to see if Windows Update offers me the upgrade for my other machine.

    Yes, DVD/UFD.

My test computer did the 3 GB 1511 download (Windows Update) but there was an error during installation. When I now "Check for updates" it says "Your device is up to date". I'll give it a few days to see if the install happens. As it's a test computer I'm prepared to wait.

I Don't remember the exact week, but it was in early October. Thanks for pointing that out. It'll be a Christmas present. :)

Well, I thought about it and decided I might as well have a go with the ISO.

I got as far as having to enter the KEY. I don't even have to enter the Key if I boot to the previous ISO and install fresh, but there was no way to skip that step.

I can't install the new update. I get the following message:

    WU.PNG

I'm not too sure what to make of this, as I don't think trying again later will solve the issue.

Maybe I need to use Media Creation Tool. It would be good, if I had more than 3.4GB of internet usage remaining before it gets throttled to an unusable speed.

    roger_m,

I think that is the message I saw on my test computer. Retry didn't work.

The ISO I used may not of been the right one. I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and now my second machine is installing Win10 TH2.

USB flash drive. Installing an OS from a UFD is faster than installing from a DVD.

You don't need to have the latest OS updates installed. Just update from any Win7, Win8, Win8.1 or Win10. I just updated my son's Win8 tablet and he hasn't done a Windows Update for over 6 months.

Edit... He didn't even have Win8.1.

I'm installing the new build right now on an old Dell laptop which was running Windows 7. I'm doing an upgrade from Windows 7, and selected to keep nothing from current OS install. I used the Media Creation Tool to make an ISO of Windows so I have it for future use. There was only the option to select between Windows 10 and Windows 10 N as the operating system, this time. The previous version of the Media Creation Tool I had used had option to select Windows 10 Pro. This must mean you can use the one ISO for a Windows 10 Home or Pro install, rather needing a separate ISO for each. This is a definite plus.

When I went to install Windows 10, I was informed that Windows 10 does not support the video card (Radeon Xpress 1150) and there would be video issues if I upgraded. This is the first time I've seen such a notice, but, this is a 9 year old video chip. I chose to ignore the warning and continue with the install. I figure that I shouldn't have any trouble finding a compatible driver.

You will not lose anything, unless you specifically select the option to keep nothing from the current install when you upgrade.

I had the same message with my tablet a few months ago. The upgrade to Win10 went fine but videos wouldn't play properly. Just coloured blocks appeared. In Device Manager I clicked Update Driver. All OK after installing the new drivers.

Win 10 Pro upgrade kept all my default apps and privacy settings.

One of the things which bugged me seems to have changed. In Settings...Apps... the default used to be to sort by size. Now it is the default to sort by name which seems to be much more user friendly.

    ok
there are 2 ways to download the iso ,i guess it's the same way
    1)http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench
    2)Media Creation Tool

have yoy used the Media Creation Tool ?
but i'm worried about software compatibility ,i mean i have software installed and antivirus (nod32 v9 is buggy) ,nod32 v8 is no more update :(

@mantra I used the Media Creation Tool to create an ISO, which I put on a flash drive using Rufus.

You shouldn't have any issues since you're just upgrading to a newer build of Windows 10 rather than a new operating system.
