I'm doing another Win8.11 to Win10 upgrade using a faster HD in my test computer.

My Win8.11 partition is only 20 GB with about half free space.

I have 1500 MB RAM and a Pentium D processor in the test computer.

It took 2 minutes longer than the previous upgrade.

Did you figure out how multiple desktops work?

I'll have my first Win10 machine in about 30 minutes, but really need to get some sleep so I may not play with it until I get to the NOC tomorrow.

Maybe. Have your chosen apps on the desktop, click Task view and then Add a desktop. Task view now brings up your two desktops. Etc.

Edit... For those who regard the Metro tiles as a Vampire, you can remove all of them. Stake through the heart to the Vampire.

Very impressed with 10 so far..

Light, fast as hell, and the new features - especially the new task switcher and multiple desktops is fantastic.

I have 1500 MB RAM and a Pentium D processor in the test computer. It's about 7 years old.

My main computer is high end. 7 seconds boot time for Win10.

It runs surprisingly well for an old computer. I have Win8 64-bit installed (multi-boot) but it won't upgrade to Win8.1 64-bit. No problem with installing Win8.1 32-bit.

Guys, did any of you test installing Win10 Preview x86?
Twice I did it on old pc and old mac book (Using install from HDD Partition method)... both times the installer can't seem to find my hard drive...
but when I try the same method with x64 there's no problem... I think ms got it wrong in the x86 preview iso release

Anyone having trouble with the start menu? I have it loaded up in oracle but when I click the menu only my name and an arrow with all apps shows up, no tiles or menu at all for that matter

BB, your comment "I have it loaded up in oracle..." isn't something I'll test yet but that's a central production concern for me. I wasn't expecting much in that regard, frankly, and so wasn't planning any Loads on these two Win10 machines but I'll see what I can dummy up and note what happens...

Win 8's "look and feel" certainly received the headlines for keeping businesses and organizations (public libraries with thousands of public computers) calculating re-training costs for the Start Screen. But businesses also saw "always on Microsoft accounts to Win Store" as being a huge privacy threat. No matter what assurances and settings were meted out, "Microsoft controls Users" is nothing but a guillotine over the head of volume-license users. Look & Feel become foggy concerns.

I have my installation in Virtualbox and don't experience such problems.

    Seems quite simple:
    1. Click on the taskview icon
    2. Add a desktop
    3. Select a desktop and open apps in it
    4. Select a different desktop and all of the apps open in the previous desktop are hidden
    5. Rinse and repeat :)

I can see this feature being useful to folks who keep many apps open and like to group them based on their workflow. I only keep a few apps open so it's easier to simply selectively minimize rather then use virtual desktops.

    fs2com,

I had no problems with 32-bit. I have two running, a clean install and an upgrade from Win8.11.

Edit... I had been installing 32-bit to my test computer. I just installed it to my main computer and the install time was just over 6 minutes.

Thanks Brian... I will check installing using UFD method then tomorrow.
Been all night tinkering to make my Win10 x64 installed on old mac book perfectly run with all the driver manually install

We toyed with Win10 in the NOC today.

Bulletproof so far.. Fast, light, effective. Love the new features. Day one upgrade for my home machines.

My Asus Win8.1 drivers installed OK. Experimenting. OS performance is no different but at least I have some GUIs to play with.

Intel Chipset, Intel LAN, Asus AI Suite, Asus AI USB3 Boost, Intel RST, Realtek sound.

Create an image of your current installation and restore it if necessary. It will be quicker than reinstalling W8 from scratch.
