I received the 'End of Support' message this morning at boot on my Windows 10 machine (not eligible for update to Win 11)
I really disliked the fact you couldn't just turn off the full screen message you have to agree for it to show again later in order to dismiss it..

What really annoyed me is that it triggered auto silent mode on my AV (Emsisoft) stopping any scheduled scans.

See, don't they have our best interest at heart??
But wait, it doesn't even back up the entire device. Ah well, it's the care and concern that matters. :gack:

Yet another reason I've started my migration away from Windows. Though, I get the same "you're too stupid to be using this device by yourself" hand-holding on my phone from Android. How many times do I have to decline backing up my photos to the cloud?? I do it myself via usb cable, but apparently that's not smart enough for Google.

It's very simple, there will be a billion incompatible devices out there in late 2025. People will push back on "forced" economics, the same way they are pushing back on subscriptions in cars or similar nonsense, outragerous prices of everything - they hold onto old stuff longer.

Aye. But will it be enough for Microsoft to concede and offer a better path than to "buy a new computer"? Will they pull a Win7 repeat and extend Win10 support? But, that would just kick the can down the road. Will they broaden support for Win11? Maybe, but why not do that now and offer some kind of gradual transition than pulling the plug? (rhetorical questions, btw) MS, like Apple, likes to dictate what's best for us, not cater to our desires (look at Recall -- who asked for that??). Then again, to play advocate, who are we to expect companies to endlessly support our devices, at no cost? Do they owe us anything? (more rhetorical questions)

Doesn't much matter to me personally -- I'll be going linux on this old Thinkpad workhorse (spurred on by Mrk's excellent journal of linux trials and tribulations), and when it comes time to buy a new computer, I won't be going with Windows. But, here we'll go again with the endless stories of old unsupported systems getting hacked, especially corporate and infrastructure...

I'm thinking of subscribing to 0Patch on one machine when Win10 goes EOL. The other most likely will be converted to Linux, possibly Kubuntu if it behaves on that machine.
