And while making a robot show compassion is quite a challenge, there are cases when these assistants, which many, including Microsoft, call “personal assistants,” give totally unexpected responses.

This is exactly what happened when Twitter user Maneesh Juneja told Cortana that he was bleeding. The assistant responded just like it didn’t care. “Okay” and “Interesting” were of the answers is offered, even though it was obvious that Cortana should have at least displayed an emergency phone number on the screen for the man in need to quickly call emergency services.
And now it cares about you
The tweet gained attention including from Microsoft, and the software giant updated Cortana to actually care about the owner “bleeding to death.” The software giant tweaked the responses offered by Cortana to tell humans what they need to do if they’re bleeding, and at the same time, to provide quick shortcuts for seeking more information online on how to deal with this.

There’s still no shortcut to call emergency services, though in this case, the easy workaround is to just tell Cortana to “dial 911” and the digital assistant should take care of it.

In fact, with the Spring Creators Update, Microsoft is trying to shoot two birds with one stone when it comes to controlling startup apps. First, as we said, it tries to ease the configuration process, and second, it continues the migration of tools and options to the Settings app.
Method #1 - Task Manager [...]
But one of the tabs in the Task Manager remains unchanged from the previous Windows versions and is simply called “Startup.” This is where you can control your startup apps, but also get information on the items configured to run at system boot.
Method #2 - Settings app
Starting with the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update, users can also disable startup apps from the Settings app, though this second method comes with fewer options.
The controls have been included in the Settings app in the following location (note that you must be running the Spring Creators Update to see this section): Settings > Apps > Startup
All apps are displayed in the right panel and you can sort them by name, status, or startup impact. The publisher is also shown, alongside a quick toggle to enable or disable each item. You’re also provided with info on the startup impact should you want to disable apps hampering boot performance.

New Windows 10 release just around the corner
Killing off old versions of Windows 10 is part of Microsoft’s new push called Windows as a Service. This means that while older releases are discontinued, new ones are being shipped, and updating to the most recent is the recommended way to always be protected and get security updates.

At this point, Microsoft is giving the finishing touches to Windows 10 Spring Creators Update, which is projected to launch as soon as this month.

The original Windows 10 version, as well as Windows 10 November Update (version 1511), has already been retired and only receive updates as part of the LTSC branch.

Ransomware Protection Section Included in Windows 10's Spring Creators Update

While ransomware has evolved into targeted attacks rather than mass spam campaigns, it is still a significant threat to businesses and consumers. Microsoft must agree, as in the upcoming Spring Creators Update, Microsoft has added a dedicated Ransomware Protection section in the Windows Defender Security Center settings.

This new Ransomware Protection section is located in the Windows Defender Security Center under the "Virus & threat protection" settings.

When going into the Ransomware protection section, you will currently only see the Controlled folder access tool. Controlled Folder Access is a feature that allows you to protect files in certain folders to that they cannot be modified by unknown applications. This protects the files within these folders from being encrypted by a ransomware infection.

BleepingComputer has reached out to Microsoft about whether any other features are expected to be found there, but have not heard back at the time of this publication.

While the company has remained completely tight-lipped on both the release date and the reason for the alleged delay, it now looks like Microsoft is planning several silent changes to the Spring Creators Update, including what could possibly be a new name.

But as it turns out, a new build has surfaced after the said delay, with BuildFeed spotting Windows 10 build 17134. It’s not clear if this is a new RTM build, however, though it’s certainly unexpected to see a newer build than the alleged RTM surfacing online.
New name for Spring Creators Update
And the more surprising tidbit is a rumor regarding the name. BuildFeed says that “Spring Creators Update is probably no longer a thing,” so Microsoft might opt for a different name when the RTM is ready.

Without a doubt, there is a lot happening behind the closed doors at Microsoft right now, so a healthy dose of skepticism is certainly recommended when reading this. Hopefully, Microsoft will reveal more about its Redstone 4 update very soon.

Microsoft could not meet April deadline
If this substantial delay indeed happens, it means Microsoft could miss its target of launching the update in April as originally planned, also impacting the version number that the operating system was supposed to use. Windows 10 version 1803 is a direct hint at the compiling date, as the first two digits represent the year, while the other two are the month, in this case March 2018.

Basically, it all came down to a blocking bug, which technically means that Microsoft cannot develop a fix and address the problem in the existing build, but only compile a completely new build that would be shipped to users.

In other words, the company needs to begin the process of preparing the release of Redstone 4 from the very beginning and complete all the steps mentioned above. A new Windows 10 build could be shipped to users in the Windows Insider program in the coming weeks as well.

Windows 10 Insider Builds provide access to development features that may make their way into the next feature release of the operating system. Microsoft "hides" some features that it considers not ready yet from these development builds of the operating system.

The company does so sometimes to avoid functionality breakage but at other times because it does not want testers to use the functionality yet. While a hidden feature may work fine in a certain build, it is usually the case that development continues on that particular feature.

Mach2 is developed by Rafeal Rivera. You may download the latest version of Mach2 from the project's GitHub page. All that is left to do is to extract the download to start making use of it.
Closing Words
Mach2 is a specialized command line tool that is only interesting to Windows Insider testers, and there only to those who want access to specific features that are not enabled yet.
Last but not least, it needs to be noted that enabling or disabling features may wreck the operating system installation on the machine. I suggest you run it only in virtual environments to avoid that.

Microsoft revealed yesterday evening on the official Windows Experience blog why it had to delay the release of the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update:

As Build 17133 progressed through the rings, we discovered some reliability issues we wanted to fix. In certain cases, these reliability issues could have led to a higher percentage of (BSOD) on PCs for example. Instead of creating a Cumulative Update package to service these issues, we decided to create a new build with the fixes included.

Microsoft noticed a bug that caused an increase in reliability issues on machines build 17133, the build of Windows 10 version 1803 that Microsoft selected for distribution to release systems.

The bug led to an increase in Blue Screen of Deaths according to Microsoft and it may have caused other issues as well as Microsoft gives BSODs as an example but does not reveal other issues the build may have caused.

Microsoft could have pushed a day zero cumulative update for the operating system if the bluescreens and other issues occurred during use and not during boot or installation.

Windows 10 build 17134 doesn’t bring any substantial change as compared to its predecessor, but instead, it corrects a bug that’s believed to have caused the delay of the Spring Creators Update.

Microsoft was projected to begin the rollout of Windows 10 Spring Creators Update on April 10, after the company previously shipped build 17133 as RTM to all rings of the Windows Insider program. Due to a last-minute bug, however, Microsoft eventually took the decision to hold back the release of the new OS feature update until it corrects the problem.
Possible launch of Spring Creators Update early next month
At this point, there’s no ETA for the Spring Creators Update, but given that Microsoft has restarted the testing process of the RTM build with help from insiders, it should take approximately one week until 17134 is promoted to all rings. If everything goes according to the plan, Windows 10 build 17134 could become available to the Slow ring today, before being published to the Release Preview ring later this week.

It’s believed Microsoft could no longer use the Spring Creators Update moniker for the new OS feature update, but without an official name announced just yet, it remains to be seen if this change is indeed going through or not.

You need to check and change the status of a networking related service in the new version of Windows 10.

Function Discovery Resource Publication is a networking service that ensures that devices are discovered in a local computer network.

The service is set to manual both in Windows 10 version 1709 and Windows 10 version 1803, but it may not be started by the system anymore in Windows 10 version 1803. What you may want to do therefore is to change the startup type of the service to automatic.

Fluent Design was announced at Build 2017, and while certain parts, like the acrylic effect, made it to the Fall Creators Update launched the same year, the Spring Creators Update appears to be the release that’s finally pushing this makeover one step forward.

First and foremost, the Windows Shell is the one benefitting the most from the evolution of Fluent Design. There are now Reveal effects and acrylic in more essential areas, like the Start menu. You can try for yourself if you’re already running the Spring Creators Update, as the reveal effect is available in both the app list and in tiles.

Microsoft, however, has further tweaked reveal effects to be softer, mostly based on user feedback, but they’re still easily noticeable across the shell.

Without a doubt, however, more on this front will be part of the Redstone 5 update in the fall of 2018, especially because the Fluent Design treatment includes much more than just acrylic and reveal effects.

Right now, the bug appears to be quite widespread, though it seems like not everyone is experiencing it. We were able to reproduce the issue on two different systems running Windows 10 build 17134. The issue doesn’t seem to exist in RS5 builds released to users in the Skip Ahead ring.

The Settings app crashes when launching the Settings app and navigating to Apps > Default apps > Set defaults by app, and no workaround seems to be making any difference for now. Rebooting the system several times could be a way to deal with this issue, according to one reddit user who posted in this thread.

Microsoft is projected to begin the public rollout of Windows 10 Redstone 4 by the end of the month, but the company is yet to release an official announcement on the date and the name of the update.

This bug, together with others that are probably less widespread, are expected to be fixed before the public rollout begins. A cumulative update to resolve all these issues is also projected to be published on day one.

WSL now working with Windows Defender firewall
Microsoft has also updated the Windows Defender firewall to support the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), which means rules can now be configured for WSL processes just like those natively running on Windows 10.

“You can add specific rules for a WSL process in Windows Defender Firewall, just as you would for any Windows process. Also, Windows Defender Firewall now supports notifications for WSL processes. For example, when a Linux tool wants to allow access to a port from the outside (like SSH or a web server like nginx), the Windows Defender Firewall will prompt to allow access just like it would for a Windows process when the port starts accepting connections,” Microsoft explains.

A dark theme is currently being developed and tested in the latest preview builds of Windows 10, as Microsoft watcher Rafael Rivera has discovered an early implementation with a black title bar and side panel already available.

As you can see in the screenshot included in this article, the black theme is still in its early days, and it needs many more refinements, but it’s a welcome start for one of the most requested features in File Explorer.
Coming in Redstone 5, maybe?
Microsoft hasn’t announced this new feature, so there’s a chance users participating in the Windows Insider program would be allowed to try it out after the April 2018 Update rolls out and Redstone 5 preview builds become available for the Fast ring as well. Currently, only Skip ahead users get Redstone 5 builds, but development should be accelerated after Redstone 4 ships to all users.

While the software giant appears to be focused on improving the desktop File Explorer, no word has been said on the current state of the UWP sibling, which is still believed to be in development and scheduled to launch with a future Windows 10 update.

The new OS feature update is labeled as Windows 10 version 1803, and this is a direct hint to the launch date. The first two digits represent the year when the RTM build was compiled, in this case 2018, while the last two are an indicator for the month – for Redstone 4 it’s March.

Therefore, Windows 10 Redstone 4 RTM was compiled in March 2018, and as per Microsoft’s typical release schedule, the public rollout begins one month later. In other words, Redstone 4 should launch in April for production systems worldwide.

With the release of Windows 10 Insider build 17650, Microsoft added a new stripped down version called "Windows Lean" that uses approximately 2GB less space on x64 systems. It achieves this by not installing many of the standard apps and features that are usually installed in Windows 10.

As you can see from the screenshots posted by Lucan, the Windows 10 Lean version does not include many of the normally installed apps and features. Instead, placeholder buttons are displayed that indicate you can download and install an app or feature as necessary.

While this is an interesting development, like many of the new features discovered in Windows 10 Insider builds, there is currently no clear cut answer as to what Microsoft plans for Windows 10 Lean. At this point, we will just have to wait and see.

A screenshot published by @WinObs on Twitter shows that what Microsoft isn’t going to change is the way users can switch out of S mode and return to full Windows.

The Microsoft Store will continue to be used for this, as it was the case of Windows 10 S, and a kill switch will be available for all users who want to remove the S mode restrictions.
S mode coming with RS4
S mode will become available for users with the release of Windows 10 Redstone 4 (also known as Spring Creators Update or April 2018 Update). The new OS version should land sometime this week, possibly later today, with only a few devices to get it at first as part of a gradual rollout.

Just like Windows 10 S, S Mode restricts the use of Win32 software, instead limiting users to apps in the Microsoft Store. This way, users are protected from malware and other threats that typically spread in Win32 software, with Microsoft saying that Windows 10 with S mode enabled is the most secure version of its operating system.

I can't say for sure but I don't expect to see it since they just released a cumulative update for the fall update yesterday. They also haven't released ISOs for it yet either. If I had to guess... Thursday (pure speculation on my part).
