Guys/Gals, I am running the latest Windows 10 RS3 Insider build 16273 and noticed something interesting that is not present on my main Windows 10 system. The file is ramdisk.sys located in the typical kernel driver location:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ramdisk.sys (description just shows "RAM Disk Driver")

Does anyone know anything more about this? I'm wondering if this is something that will be accessible to all SKUs or just Pro/Enterprise. Also, I don't know whether there is a user interface to access this similar to SoftPerfect RAM Disk. This would be great if it is accessible to all. My guess is this is something to do with the Storage Spaces functionality.

Does it make a noticeable difference in performance or do you use it so temp files won't persist?

It is not present on my Win10-system, but after searching for the file i have found it in the driver store (C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\[...]\ramdisk.sys)
It should be on your main Windows 10 system too (at least in the Driver Store) :cautious:

I guess the driver is associated with a specific Windows-feature which has been activated on your Insider-build but which isn't activated on your main system (and my system :)).

I use it for my Firefox cache and Windows temporary files (%TEMP%, %TMP%).

Indeed so those files don't persist, but also to prevent unnecessary writes to my SSD.

@mood You are right about the DriverStore location on the stable branch of Windows 10 as well. Thank you for the insight. You seem to always be right 100% of the time to the point where I just trust anything you say now. :thumb:

One of my machines has started automatically enabling Windows Update service... I typically leave it disabled so I can update when i want to, but at some point over the last month or so it has been re-enabling the service.

Anyone else have this issue - I don't think it's happening on any of my other machines.
