Windows doesn't run at all in VB without ctads

What evaluation version are you running? I'm running the full not the evaluation version of Enterprise.

I was one of the unlucky one with this new build. Appears a lot of others are seeing it as well.

There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:

    Windows 10 Insider Preview 16215.1000 (rs_prerelease) - Error 0x80070057

Insider? Now that's alpha testing! I'm not that adventurous! :(:p

    I am running Win 10 x64 Home ver. 1607.

This is a revelation. Appears any .exe download from the web i.e. "mark of the web" will not run unless it's in the Win App store. I downloaded an unsigned .exe from a site and I am receiving "This app can't run." Native SmartScreen is disabled. Even tried "Developer" mode. No dice as long as the "mark of the web" remains with the file.

    Anyone else seeing this?

    Hello @itman,

Maybe you have the setting checked "Allow apps from the Store only" under "Settings" > "Apps" > "Apps & features" checked?

I saw this behavior once after installing 1703, Macrium Reflect Free wouldn't install at all, I got the "This app can't run on your PC" routine also. However, down the road on subsequent installs, it worked fine. I'd write it off as a just a freak occurrence, but I'm not sure how you'd fix it (without reinstalling 10) if it persists in your install.

Btw, I also have had consistent problems with Chrome breaking in Creators Update, tried it many times on many separate installs, it appears that javascript isn't working properly in Chrome on CU, even though it works fine in Firefox, super weird.... I saw others in the Feedback Hub mentioning and upvoting the same Chrome problems....

As for 1607 though, I never had any issues with outside apps not running... just in 1703.

Does anyone know what this error means?

0x80070057 -2147024809 ERROR_INVALID_PARAMENTER - E_INVALIDARG One or more arguments are not valid error - Invalid proxy server name was specified in the user’s IE settings and hence WinhttpSetProxySettings call fails with E_INVALIDARG error. BITS puts the job in TRANSIENT_ERROR with the same error code. For ex, if the proxy server is set to http://foo/bar/proxy.pac, this error will be seen. This error is also seen when credentials are supplied such that scheme is not NTLM/Negotiate, but username/password is NULL, since that is not valid (WinhttpSetCredentials fails with E_INVALIDARG. BITS 1.5 puts the job into ERROR state with BG_E_INVALID_RESPONSE in the above 2 cases, because of error code mapping E_INVALIDARG is always mapped to (BG_E_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE)

Hmmm.... strange because 32 bit apps should run on X64 Windows.

It was a 64 bit app.

I had original tried to a non-existent .exe i.e. wrong .exe name. That is the stupid message you get from Win 10, "This app can't run", instead of something like "file does exist," etc..

Ya, maybe for those that can actually install this version. If you do a search, you will see a lot of those like me with the same errors. It installs, fails, rolls back to previous version. It has retried 7 times now. I can turn off insider updates or try restoring an image from two updates back. Then try the update again.

Have any members here had any occasions where they have used the Windows 10 Emergency Restart?

Thanks, I only knew it as Ctl/Alt/Del. Yes, on several occasions while in a game, everything suddenly froze leaving me without a mouse pointer. After hitting Control/Alt/Delete, I had to then click once on the resultant screen to get the menu with the power button in lower right.

After you do Ctl/Alt/Del you then hold down the control key while pressing restart in power options (bottom right of screen) and it will tell you that you are going to do an Emergency Restart.
