Yeah, Edge still feels like an unfinished product in many ways. I used to use Firefox as my main browser, but its security is just not there yet. Although people has privacy concerns on Google Chrome, it's security is unmatched in all major browsers. I guess I'll mainly use Chrome on the new Windows 10 for a long time.

I haven't used Edge, but I hear that there are some add-ons for it now. What do you feel is still unfinished about it?

I like Firefox. I prefer the Bookmarks sidebar being seen all of the time without obscuring the browser window. I can't recall other browsers with that feature. Are there any?

The hidden settings panel are hard to configure; it could freeze when loading some website; etc. Haven't seen a crash yet, but feels clumsy. But I guess others may have a different experience on Edge. Maybe it's just not for me.

Not sure about the bookmarks sidebar feature being present in some other browser, but I mainly focus on the security feature of a browser now. Mainly because browser is most likely hacker's favorite targets, where malware could get onto one's computer.

So do i , i don't care much of addons or customization tools, it is why i ditched FF to chrome years ago. and why i will probably ditch Chrome for Edge when they will implement the virtualization mechanism.

I decided to upgrade one of my laptops. I'm also using Windows Defender for the moment. I like the new Windows Defender Security Center front end. I don't know if the AV is improved over the Anniversary Update (which is already quite good IMHO).

Good to see it wasn't just me that thought this update was more responsive. I was going to mention it but wasn't sure if it was just a placebo effect or not. I haven't had any start menu issues, but like you said, you tweaked it so that probably has something to do with it.

Maybe collective placebo effect. Has MS made any claim about this version of Windows being "more responsive"?. Has this been measured in any way?

Hmm, Anniversary Edition has been pretty slammin on here so not sure if "increased responsiveness" is going to be noticeable for some. Guess it's install first, notice later. If the Windows Defender delayed interface issue has been done away with, and I believe that's been completely redone, that's enough for me at least. I didn't read this (lol!), by the way.

I have removed Cortana and Start menu stopped working (it is unclickable), then started to work and now it does not again. I have also disabled AppModel logging, which might have triggered it.

Well, Settings menus open instantaneously, compared to before. Then again, my tweaks alone have increased responsiveness compared to the clean install, so hard to say, who to thank. :D

The upgrade went fine on one computer a week ago. On my main laptop, the upgrade refused to install. But with many hours of help from @Phant0m I was finally able to complete the upgrade last night, after doing a clean boot, and it's running very well.

Would you say that uninstalling security programs would improve the odds of a successful upgrade? I'm just about to to try on one machine...

It may help, but I didn't need to do that. I suggest you try with your security software installed first. If that faills do a clean boot, and try again. If it fails again, then uninstall your security software.

If the upgrade fails in the first stage before rebooting, then no changes will have been made to your system. If it fails in the second stage, then it will rollback any changes made, so your system will be back to how it was before the upgrade. Of course it makes sense to have a working backup you can restore from in case of disater. But, it's highly unlikely you would need to do that.

Best practices is to uninstall every security softs before installing/upgrading an OS. unless you don't mind getting a potential unbootable machine...

    1- clean install
    2- make backup
3- test security appps , if they create issues, restore backup

I've been fortunate with the upgrades. I've never uninstalled my or other people's installed security software to perform the upgrades. Desktops, Laptops, Netbooks, Tablets. The various upgrades, never had unbootable PC yet (... Knock on wood.)

I have experienced issues upgrading for those who had AVG installed. Two computers in a row with AVG and failed, so now I just disable the AVG services and do the updates and re-enable the AVG services and all is good. No need to uninstall AVG software, or any security software.

Today, when I've tried to install the Windows 10 Creators update. It would clunk out on the second phase, at the end. I tried the second time just to make sure it wasn't a freak of nature. Then I disabled the two security products associated services. Comodo Firewall and MalwareBytes Free 3.0.6. Only after that was I able to get a successful update.

Error experienced ' 0x8007042B - 0x4000D ', and the logs no way reflected a problem with either of the two products.

My new Win10 Pro machine updated to 15063.14 seamlessly. Of course I backed up current state before updating. The only security app I'm running is Defender so I guess since it's a Microsoft product, it doesn't really count as something that would or should interfere with the update.

Don't bother. If programs don't work, click Fresh Restart. Windows 10 will wipe all installed applications and reboot with a clean boot version. Aren't they thoughtful? Especially when you when don't have time to find an installed program that's not compatible with Windows 10.
