Hey mood: Thanks, you reminded me of my own post--lol! I reset my machine in the interim and forgot, so this was enabled again without my knowledge. Fast Startup for me seemed a little TOO fast, sometimes skipping over the visual motherboard POST and causing a momentary black screen. This would then be logged as a LiveKernelEvent in RelMon. Not good.
Yes, to see BIOS messages or to get into the BIOS, you always have to do a restart, if Fast Boot is enabled.
I came across this video on YouTube about the about unwanted programs that are installed in Win 10 without your knowledge. I don't know how many of you are aware of this but for those of you who might be interested here is the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgKJMsJ-6XU
Just saying thanks does not quite cover it, but thanks. This auto-crap install is a major annoyance in 10. Well, ... was. I have got some great tweaks there. To sum it up: reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager" /v "ContentDeliveryAllowed" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager" /v "SilentInstalledAppsEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager" /v "SubscribedContentEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager\SuggestedApps" /f reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager" /v "OemPreInstalledAppsEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager" /v "PreInstalledAppsEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager" /v "PreInstalledAppsEverEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f
Was anyone else afflicted with the inordinately LONG "Getting Windows Ready. Don't turn off your computer" message upon reboot from installation? It took longer for this message to go away than it did for download and install combined, it was to where I looked at my machine and asked it, "Did you bork?" Cumulative kb3206632, Adobe and Malicious Software Removal Tool, oh yeah, and a Windows Defender kb. Went fine though.
Yeah, it happened to my machine, too. I eventually did the unthinkable and turned off my computer. When it rebooted, I got the message that KB3206632 failed to update my system. I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Control Panel to completely reset Windows Update, rebooted, then tried again. This time, it installed successfully.
It happened to me too on 2 machines, although it wasn't too long to get anxious about it. I would never turn off a computer whilst updating on a reboot. If the worst comes to the worst, Windows will revert back automatically to its previous state.
hi microsoft release a new update comulative for w10 KB3206632 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4004227/windows-10-update-kb3206632 hope it's the right section to add about the update
Just restored my 10 image and updated and no problems, everything went fine. Same as pegas mentioned above....
Finally managed to upgrade my primary laptop to AU. After (many) previous attempts (including via iso), all after clean boot, computer would not restart or shutdown. I suspected it was a driver issue but could not find the culprit. But I did not do anything in that regard now, so some recent Windows update must have fixed it. I still have to disable the Windows Search service (SearchIndexer.exe) on this machine, else it freezes after a few minutes. A recurring problem on this laptop since upgrading from Windows 8.1.
Opened up my Surface Book, and noticed something different. Looks like it wants to push AU onto my system. Spoiler: screenshots Spoiler: screenshot Spoiler: screenshot
Rebooted after charging the battery, and apparently had one failure to update. I wish had control over the update process. Spoiler: screenshot
You can easily shut down Cortana, among other things, with with O&O ShutUp10 - "Free antispy tool for Windows 10." https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
I plugged in my USB shortly before 9.00am, in preparation for a scheduled task, i.e. Macrium Reflect. However, I got these for the first time. P.S. My scheduled incremental in Macrium Reflect did not run. I guess it got wiped when I got the update to this Anniversary Edition, a few hours ago.
I've used this to remove\uninstall cortana since the tweak\tool first appeared on all updates including anniversary with no ill effects, at the same site their is also a tool for removing edge... How to uninstall and remove Cortana in Windows 10 "Microsoft added a digital assistant in Windows 10 called Cortana which can recognize your voice and do some things for you like giving you information or automating some tasks. But while it is nice to have for fun, it is far from being a seriously useful, powerful tool compared to what you can do by manually searching the web. Not every user finds Cortana useful. Many users are looking for a way to remove it, but Microsoft does not allow uninstalling Cortana in Windows 10. In this article, we will see how it can be done." Take note of the start menu warning, I can't stand the tiles and I use classicshell that I installed before removing cortana and edge! http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-uninstall-and-remove-cortana-in-windows-10/
I got that 'voice thing business', but I haven't responded, but I have the option of ''maybe later". So, I will be delving more into this Cortana business. It does seem to intrusive.
