    Thanks for reading :D

I decided to set my routers DNS to OpenDNS for the two computers on the network which share one IP. Are both computers automatically in better shape having done so? Should I feel like I need to register an account and install the OpenDNS software on both pc's?

    Thanks for chiming in *puppy*

My laptop is set up like that.
I don't have an account and didn't run any software.

My understanding is that your automatically better off :)

In fact I think using a DNS service like this is one of the best security enhancements someone can make.

I'm not in any way an expert on this though !!

Yes, OpenDNS will function well without an OpenDNS Account, however, there are benefits with an OpenDNS Account.

Sadly, the OpenDNS Web site makes it very diffacult for one to understand OpenDNS with clarity.
For one thing there is vage explanations on the differences between the Home Premium Account and the Home Parental
Control Account. The 'More Information' links only run the visitor around in circles back to the same pages of
information over and over again indiscreately forcing the visitor to open an account with OpenDNS.

The Premium Account is free, promising an speedy Internet experience through an reliable OpenDNS network that
promises to improve security by filtering out Phishing Sites by way of the OpenDNS owned and operated phishtank.com
Web site claiming it to be the largest clearinghouse of phishing information on the Internet. The fraudulent Web site
listings for the phishtank.com Web site is mostly populated through submissions by OpenDNS account clients.
In addition to the promised speedy Internet experience, with improved security, with reliable network, the OpenDns
free Premium Account also provides the account holder with OpenDNS network usage reports providing insight into
how the account holders' Internet resources are being used. With the free OpenDNS Premium Account there are no
downloads or additional software required. Can be used for Home or Business.

The OpenDNS Premium Account = Free, Fast, Reliable, Anti-Fraud, Stats, No Software Required
The OpenDns Home Account = Free, Fast, Reliable, Anti-Fraud, Customizable Parental Controls
The OpenDNS FamilyShield Account = Free, Fast, Reliable, Anti-Fraud, Customizable Parental Controls, Pre-Configured
The OpenDNS Home VIP = $19.95 Per Year, Fast, Reliable, Anti-Fraud, Stats, Customizable Parental Controls, Support
The OpenDNS Simple IP Address Replacement = Free, Fast, Reliable, OpenDNS Default Preferences, No Control, No Software

The OpenDNS Updater Software only needs to be installed if the client of the Internet Service Provider is assigned
with an Dynamic IP Address. In other words, the Internet Service Provider clients IP Address changes often.
The OpenDNS Updater Software will then detect changes to the Internet Service Providers Client IP Address and notify
the OpenDNS service about the change in the Internet Service Provider clients IP Address so that the OpenDNS Account
settings continue to be applied to the OpenDNS network. (Your OpenDNS Account Network). Without the OpenDNS Updater
Software installed any change in the assigned IP Address provided by the Internet Service Provider must be manually
changed in the OpenDNS Account Network.

When you say install, do you mean the updater ?
I have registered an account, this is purely for blocking cetain websites. Once registered, you can choose categories to block, eg porn.P2P, social network, etc. If you do not have a static IP address, these settings are lost, when your IP address changes. The updater tracks the changes to your IP address and retains your settings.
