I can see a simple Detroit solution. Mfg them with a small toggle button, which functions as an on/off switch, on the key FOB. When the user exits their vehicle they press the button and now there is NO wireless/radio signal at all. Simply press it again when you are approaching to drive away. How simple is that?

    The reality is actually worse.

The trend has been for thieves to break in, while you are home, to get your keys.

    A lockable coffee can?

I have an old-school tube safe, set into a large reinforced-concrete block, under my office floor :)

We keep our vehicle key fobs on the kitchen counter. Looks like I'm going to have to keep an empty Chock full o'Nuts coffee can to put our fobs in now. :)
